A question for Palmbob

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

Spike has a heart murmur, and I am not sure if that would make a difference. He is 14 years old this month and is a toy fox terrier. He seems to have aged more quickly than one would think of such a small breed. It may have something to do with his being a puppymill baby.
Anyway, the only common denominator that I can see is the heartworm meds. Last month and this month, after I gave him his Interceptor he has had a very bad reaction the next day or two.
This month I gave him one two days ago and he is just now starting to eat a little again. It scares me and I am wondering if I should just quit giving him these monthly meds since he is so old.
He wanders around as if he is in pain and his bowel movements are very loose.
I even made him a couple of scrambled eggs and he turned his nose up at them. The meds are basically a poison, and I am not sure his system can handle them anymore. What if anything would you suggest. Do other older dogs experienced similar reactions?
