Can I grow these in containers and bring them inside for the winter? They are beautiful. I'd also like to try some edible ginger - we use ginger root alot and it's spendy in the stores.

They are hard to get to flower in a container. They need at least a couple of years to get established before you can even get flowers from them in the ground and if they get frosted on, forget flowers for a year or so.

I got a few blooms from Ginger planted in the ground last year. The problem is that they seem to want to bloom right when the frost hits.

To they need to be a certain size before they bloom?
Mine are huge,I have them planted in the ground again, kept them growing all thru the winter inside.

They tend to bloom in the fall in this part of the woods. I used to bring all my ginger inside for the winter and plant them out in the spring but I ran out of room. Maybe you will have better luck, Tropicman!

Well we have had some cool nights into the 30's,and they haven't been to happy.Another cool nite next 2 days, then a warm might set them into blooming early, fingers crossed.

Beautiful. I am jealous. Mine has never bloomed. Frost kill it every year. Will try potting it and keeping it in the greenhouse.

Barb, they get 8 to 10 ft tall here, don't know if they will flower this year though. I noticed some really big ones in the old part of B'ville.
