Help! I am not sure if I am in the right place but maybe someone can send me some advice or let me know where to go for the information! I have a Japanese Maple 'Butterfly' Acer palmatum and the leaves are turning brown and dry around the edges, So I fertilized it thinking feeding it before it got cold would help it make it get through the winter! I live in south east Texas so our winters aren’t usually to hard. I fertilized it with some fish emulsion fertilizer-5 tablespoons and some new stuff out to help stress called super thrive-5 teaspoons along with miracle grow for acid-loving plants-3 tablespoons all in a 5 gallon bucket of water! And it seems to look worst than it did before I did this! I could use all the information I can get as in should I transplant it now or spring, and if so what kind of soil, should I keep it inside during the winter…ect. Any thing you can think I need to know would be so appreciated thank you! You can email me at childofgraceus@sbcglobal.net

I'm not sure how far from the DFW area you are,but there is a place in mansfield that is called Metro Maples. It's a wonderful place that specializes in maples. They are super nice people and can give you great advice for any maple. They have a web site metromaples.com. I love going to their property.

Doss, why is your tree predominately white do you think?
I like that look, but mine are mostly green with white!

Beautiful tree, do you have and updated photo to show how much it grew?
Thanks!

I believe that mine is predominately white because it is on a north wall and gets no direct sun. I keep it the same size by pruning so there's no telling how large it would be if I didn't keep it pruned!

Thanks! I thought they needed sun to exhibit that variegation.
I will move mine and see if it whitens up!

Be careful when you move it. It shouldn't get afternoon sun and move it gradually into a sunny place. At this time of year you could probably just move it but if there's any heat a tree will scorch if moved into sun from shade too suddenly.

Doss, I am moving mine out of the sun!
If yours is that pretty without sun, then mine should be in indirect light too!

She has fat buds now, so I can still move her.

Well good luck. We'll look forward to photos of yours on the PF!
