My normal grow room is an insulated basement which stays around 60-60F in winter. My garage on several occations dip below freezing, and our unheated attic also dips below freezing in winter (only for a few days and usually just around 28-29 F)
What would the best winterizing strategy be ?
(I can't realisticly dedicate growing space to the plant)
Want to try brugs, but please help with winterizing strategy
Forget the attic and garage -- your best bet would be to keep them in your basement. Someone from your zone should come along and offer some good advice :)
I use the basement and a closet for putting them into dormancy. Somewhere around 60 degrees is good.
Can they stay at around 60F for the winter, or will they start to grow again ?
You keep them in the dark and only give about a cup af water every 3 or 4 weeks
only to keep the roots from totally drying out which would of course kill the plant.
You will see a small amount of very pale almost white skinny growth.
Just ingnore that , as it can be removed when you bring them out of dormancy.
I would hesitate to wound the plant by cutting them off while they are sleeping.

Thanks for the information.. How do you grow brugmansias .. from seed ? or do you need vegetative cuttings ?
You can do it either way.
If there is a specific brug that you want it must come from a cutting of that plant.
Seeds do not come true to the parent plants , each individual seed in every seed pod will be different.
Maybe someone will come along that can send you some cuttings.
I do not have any this time of the year.
Anyway starting seed this late in the year would probably not give you any flowers until next year.
Seeds are a good project in the winter.
Have fun !
