Over wintered then Bang I am Freakin out!!

Laurel, MD(Zone 7a)

The sticks began to grow - I was so excited! They grew into two and three foot plants - now there is a a white web on them - I keep wiping this off - what is it? How do I get rid of it?? Is there any hope of saving these plants???

it might be spider mites or some small spider. use some insectidial soap ( walmart safers brand) and spray it.

nake sure you get under the leaves and all the stalk. spider mites dont stay on the web all the time. once you put it outside you shouldnt see to much of it any more.

its a problem for everyone who houses plants in a greenhouse or house.

I might also add that it helps to put your plants in the shower and spray the heck out of both sides of the leaves and the rest of the plant. Then once you move them outside, hose both sides of the leaves every time you think of it!

Brugmansia + Dry heat indoors = spider mites. I fought them for years during the winter and finally gave up! I defoliate all my brugs before bringing them in for the winter. Some fights like that are just not worth my time!!!

I agree with Mel, the shower or hose blasts the little suckers off. It is the most effective thing I've tried, too.
Good luck!!

I just squish them as I see them, its really easy to do without harming the plant and it makes me feel like I got some retribusion for the little bugers damage, LOL.

Thanks for all the tips. I am setting them out side next week here in Maryland eastern shore area. I will give them some night protection but think they will be alright. I had a heck of a time moving them all the shower so took them to the sink and used the sprayer (after many trips to the shower it dinally dawned on me to use the sink DUH)!.

the mites...Yes.. they are real actice this time of year.. it seems.. I'd another bunch on mine when they were put out a week or so ago.. I noticed them... so I went searching about for the sprayer I'd loaded with the horticultural oil... I found it and started spraying.. then I noticed... in the 10 minutes I was looking for the aprayer.. a ladybug came and was working the leaves over.... looking for my pests for lunch.. bless them.. it is all so easy outside...
