greenhouse benches

Quinault, WA

Does anyone have recommendations for the least expensive benches/shelves for greenhouses?Recently purchased RION 8x24 and became a distributer for these wonderful houses but need a source for inexpensive shelving.

Shelving for your GH or to sell ?
I was thinking of making mine with 2x4's and wire fence
with the 2x3 inch rectangle holes in it. then just make some
supports or set them on cinder blocks.

I could not find any inexpensive shelving. Found some shelving but it was horrible -so flimsy, and it broke the first time I tried to stick the leg on to set it up. I compromised and made it work, and one day I went out to the GH and shelving was all leaning over with my plants on it. Now that shelving is just sitting in a pile. That was the black shelving like you see the plants on at Walmart -that is why I thought it would be OK -NOT the same material. It also was quite expensive at $60 for one 3-shelving unit -don't waste money on those....Ended up with what VbSparky is talking about - fence posts with 2x10 cut to size and the 2x3 inch rectangle fencing. That works great....

If you do find some inexpensive shelving that will work, please post it. Doesn't Rion make some kind of shelving? By the way, Rion looks like it makes a great GH....congratulations on your distributorship!!!! :-)

RION does have shelving but too small for what I need. I will be propagating hydrangeas to sell and I will need to fill the entire area with tables and shelves for personal use (seeds, etc.) Farmtek looks pretty good so far other than having someone make them. Out here in a rainforest and very isolated so very difficult to find help with labor.
Since I have started with the largest that RION makes - I am going to take the front 6-8' and put pavers and make a sitting (meditating) area so when it rains (always) it will be swell - don't you think?
Note: I used the base that RION has and used pea gravel so I didn't have to pour a foundation and it works great!

Another thought on shelves: Have thought about those plastic table tops (very cheap) available from Farmtek and finding something for a base (cinder blocks would work) but wouldn't it be best to come up with something that could be used for storage also? Something with shelves for storing stuff?

2x4's and fence wire worked for me

The cheapest benches I have seen are free wooden pallets, with cinder blocks for legs. The small comercial greenhouse in town uses them.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

I have a bunch of grates out of comercial refer units they are very sturdy, probably measure 26X30" & I'll probably just put them on a 2X4 frame. (My GH is still being finished.) I only need shelves on one side as the Brugmansias take up the whole other side. I have seen these at land fills & junk yards & places that sell restraunt supplies, like refers & stoves. I don't think they would cost much if anything. They don't bow in the middle & are easy to clean. I used a few in my tiny GH on an old metal Halmark Card card rack, they worked fine. Bj

I bought mine at Lowe's for $58 dollars per unit. I have 4 units. You can kinda get a look at them inside the greenhouse.

Man! I paid about $70 for the same thing at Lowe's about two months ago. That is what I used to make my light stand. Just hang the shop lights from the rack above. It is nice and sturdy.

May all your plants be fruitful
