Has anyone ever pulled the new shoots off of a hibiscus as they were sprouting. I was thinking I see them with 15 or 20 shoots about 6 inches long sticking up. I am going to try it but was just wondering if anyone else had tried this. I was thinking that it would be a good way to get the hibiscus for the project started by Donna. Thanks Jim
A question for hibiscus experts
Jim, I'm not sure where Lagrange is but if it is as cold at your house as it seems here in upstate S.C. You had better get pulling ! :)
Thats a good question - maybe someone will know.

Charlotte, I don't think it is quite as cold here as there. I am 60 miles south west of Atlanta. About half way between Atlanta and Montgomery AL. But it is cold enough here. I had some tropical hibiscus that I left out last night and it got down to 34 with wind chill down to 29 but it didn't seem to bother them any. I did bring them inside this afternoon. The things that I have in the ground seems to have made it alright. I'm hoping for the best. I did have a couple of things that it hurt. I have a bromelaid that I kept in side until about a week ago and carried it out. I guess it was a little too cold for it. Just had a couple of leaves that I will have to trim off. Hope you don't lose anything.
Are you talking about the hardy hibiscus or the tropical hibiscus? I have rooted the hardy hibiscus by taking the new shoots and rooting them in water. Some are easier than others, but it can be done.
