Anyone have this planted outdoors? I'd like to move mine out, as she's all rangy and unhappy looking indoors. Where would this plant be happiest outside?
Any tips, I'll be waiting!

Talinum paniculatum/Jewel of Opar
I have some in mostly sun and some in mostly shade, they are doing great in both locations. Mine stay outside all year, even survived the freeze at Christmas with a little straw covering them.
The ones in shade have darker green leaves than the ones in full sun.
I planted one last year and it came back from the roots! I was told it was not hardy to our area, but that it re-seeds. I have not seen any seedlings yet though, but it came back in the same place I moved it to in the fall. Mine gets about 4 hours of sun from about 8 to noon.
Wow, Callalily & Sweezel.....looks like mine will be going outdoors too! I'm torn as to the perfect spot though. There's the morning sun uber-soil'ed azalea & hydrangea bed, and the morning-late afternoon sun sedum & gaura bed. What would you recommend?
I really like this odd little plant, by the way. =)
Well, I don't think it's quite as drought tolerant as the sedum and gaura so the other might be best, depending on how much you water it. Mine seems to bloom just fine with morning sun only.
Yep, I'd go with the azalea bed too, needs more water than the sedum.
The azaleas will officially have a new neighbor as of tomorrow morning! Thanks so much, you two--you've probably saved me the money on replacing my plant....I probably would've stuck her in the sedum bed! lol

(Either of you have any adenium outside? If so? ;-D)
Had one, killed it, no surprise, I've killed them all, lol.
Oh, great, Cala! lol Now, I'm not the least bit afraid of bumping mine off! =0 I think I'm going to take a leap of faith, and pot him up bonsai-style, situating him w/two other bonsai (juniper & begonia) on my south-facing covered porch. If there's any sign he's planning a visit to YOUR adeniums (wink), he'll come back indoors!!

MK, I overwatered I'm pretty sure. The do fine in the summer, it's the winter when I kill them. I forget they need to be really dry when they are dormant, but I can't stand seeing that dry dirt and I have to water!!
My friend at the garden center offered to sell me one at a discount, but I resisted. I said "no, I'll just kill it no matter if it's $20 or if it's full price($48)" He told me I was hopeless!
OH, I can sympathize.......I'm a maiden hair fern murderess myself. Doesn't matter WHAT I do, it'll croak. Even had an expert grower of the stuff walk me through proper care at a garden show.......his plant died too over here at my house. =)
