Heya friends. I was looking through my pictures trying to figure out what all passie's I have when I realized these 2 weren't the same kind. Here is a picture of the unknown. I thought it was P. Caerulea Hardy blue and my slight color blindness was helping me with that decision. Now I'm at a loss for what it is and where I got it. Now that I look closer, I even had fruit from it and lost it! DOH!
Please help me ID this Passiflora
Is it Blue Bouquet? I've had it set fruit but no seeds and a lot of the fruits would fall off.
No my blue bouquet is much more blue with a darker center. I'm stumped. I don't want to jinx myself but I'm beginning to think it maybe a seedling from all the cross pollenating I've done over the years. That would be awesome to have created a new passie! But if that did turn out to be the case, I wouldn't have a clue what set of parents it has! Here is a picture of my Blue Bouquet that Tropicman sent me cuttings of when I was doing some rooting expiraments.
I found the same mystery passie in other folders under Blue bouquet and 1 under just P. Caerulea.
I'm wondering if it isn't Blue bouquet with maybe a crazy ph swing in the soil or ferts becuase I have a folder with about 6 pictures of it taken on 7-23-04 all listed Blue Bouquet. If they hadn't been taken with a borrowed Sony Mavica camera,(it autodates all pics in details) I wouldn't know the date. The known and darker blue Bouquet pics were taken with a super cheap camera so I have no idea of the date etc...Hmmm
Well if it is indeed a new/unknown, it will be flowering again before too much longer and I'll know for sure as I have them all tagged/labeled.
If I remember correctly, that fruit off that 1 was hollow too or I would of kept them. Man this is driving me crazy, atleast its a short drive;)
I have a question for you, are those the leaves of that same plant? They look almost like Constance Elliott leaves, but the flower looks like Blue Boutique. Maybe it's natures Hybrid??? Let me know.
thanks,
Mark
Jeff, didn't I send you a cutting of Blue Crown,I had one, I recieved from a trade from a nice lady from Seattle area?
I check and see If I can find a pic of it.
Yes those are the leaves but it is possible there were 2 passie's planted in that pot together. I have both of the passiflora's mentioned(C.Elliot and Blue Bouquet) but this 1 looks like its something inbetween the 2. I'm stumped man. I'm thinking it's eaither an accidental hybrid or the potting medium was so far off PH wise, that it changed the appearance of 1 or the other.
Thanks for helping me brianstorm.
Some passion flowers will actually change appearance a bit when weather is cooler/warmer, those kinds of things. P. Elizabeth for example, when weather is pretty cold, it is dark purple in the center, when weather starts to warm up, the center is the same color as the rest of the flower and when the weather is hot, the center gets almost white. Other passiflora have pale petals when the weather is cooler and this may be the case with yours. I saw a Blue Boutique at the nursery today and it had white petals, they should be powder blue if it's the real deal.

Yeah I know mine vary in color a bunch with temp. differences etc.. I think it's Tropicman's Blue Bouquet in early spring. It just looks so totally different when I zoom in on the center.
I madea pretty neat dicovery yesterday when hand pollenating some Blue Hardy Passiflora's. I notcied that if they aren't pollenated, they will stay open for a few days(each bloom). the ones I pollenated by hand yesterday closed up just a few hours after spreading pollen with a model brush. I can already see a tiny bit of swelling where I see fruit comefrom on my others that set fruit. Now if I can stay concentrated enough to keep all cross pollenating etc. labeled!LOL That has been my downfall in the past.
Tropicman. How hard of a freeze did you get last night? We had to bring in dozens of pots and cover beds with dozens of blackets. I missed 1 little flower with a blanket and its toast. Now we'll have to cover it all up again tonight! UGHH Spring in Ks. is always a pain.
I had a zebrina banana leaves burnt other than it everything was ok,only got down to 38*,I covered most everything, except that banana got its leaves burnt.
We were lucky here.
Sorry to hear about your flower, that got zapped.
Good job Cala. I would have guessed Blue Bouquet also, even tho I've only had it one summer.
After looking at the dates and talking with my wife, It seems like we remember comparing these at the time to hardy blue and they looked like a pale blue. These unknown pics have a burgundy/dark purple center rather than the blacker center of Blue Bouquet. I can rember having them side by side then as time went by, they grew more and more similar until we didn't notice any difference. That plant is at the highschool greenhouse and should start blooming anytime IMO so a comaprison isn't far off.
I sure appreciate everyone's effort in this ID...These sure can be crazy, beautiful and varying flowers. I can not wait to see what this summer brings since I'm starting off with big plants and not small/newer cuttings. I'm gonna have them everywhere;). I'l get more pics ASAP.
