Nana in ground

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I saw Ada asking how to put a big Nana in,mine was huge last year,Saba gets big for me,well at about 500lbs,there was no way to get it to a GH again.
I have an overhang on the side of my house,I lost all my pics of when I put it away,so all I have is taking it out pictures.
I covered the rootball with Peat and the trunk with leaves.
Here it is coming out.

I cut the top back to where I thought the mush stopped.

You know you have a problem, when one of your most used garden tools is a dolly,LOL!

I let it set in the ground for a few days till it got settled in.
then cut back to good growth.

Hiya big guy!!! You really should stop posting pics of those big knives! You might worry some of us. LOL

That nanner is huge! I can't wait to see how it looks in a month or so. :) Good to see you posting.

That is one heavy nana......it must get hugh in the summer. It is really too bad you cannot cut it back before winter and mulch heavily and cover well. It must be beautiful for you to go through all this hard work. Can't wait to see your back yard again this year.......it was so beautiful last summer.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks Frannie, the sunroom sure did add to my winter storage,I do have some Nanas that are hardy with mulch, they are just poking up now.

You know that would be funny if my hubby had not lopped his off with a table saw in August. Okay, it's still funny. ROTFLMBO I let him use the circular yesterday to cut some plywood for a subfloor and he still has 9 so we are doing okay. :)

I didn't mean to be a thread killer. :( Trust me, we are over it. Somebody come back!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Hi Root! I've missed your postings. I can't wait to see your garden this year. What projects have you got planned for this summer?

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

ROF!!! I am back, been planting, gotta love Ks.,just got a light Hail and Thunder storm.
I am hoping it will turn out Liz,I could not believe all the plants I had in here.
I have been steady putting them in,and am just now starting to see the deck again.
I lost my Sumack in my rock,so I just moved a coop Clematis over there to take over the stem.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Root, sounds like you were smarter than I. LOL If this one gets any bigger this year, it may have to stay outside. I have to lay it down because it's too tall for the garage ceilings and the greenhouse. It's in a big pot now bungee strapped to my swing. I was afraid when we had the high winds it would pull the swing over but it stayed up. DH would have killed me if that big nana had turned over his swing. LOL

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL! The things we do,I guess we are all a little nuts, mine was just too big,it was too tall to lay down in the truck, and I did not have a trailer.
I at one time considered growing it on its side on some kind of rollers,so I could turn it,boy am I glad I did not try that.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I love my nana trees. I have bunches all over the yard. Scared me at first when I saw the first pics by your house before reading. They look great by your house but the dampness will draw termites to your house

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9a)

500 pounds of gold, ya got there! I love your step by step photos. How much do you expect it to weigh next year?!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

It can't get as heavy as before, since it has lost all the trunk weight,I just an hoping it comes back.I did get some pups as back ups.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Now that's a Nana! I can't wait to see what it does this summer for you Root.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Root, dolly is one of my most used tools this year, back ain't what it used to be!!!
Funny now after the 5 by pass, getting more blood to the ole ticker, feeling a little better then next thing you know can't bend over all the way to the ground, just when you get one thing fixed another goes all to heck!!!
You never know what those bananas will do,just don't over water until a couple leaves appear, then feed and water normally.Rotted a few myself,by giving to much water before the roots can grow first!
