I dragged a huge 100 ft long soaker hose out of the attic today and proceeded to soak my garden. I recently pulled out a big clump of Bunny Tails grass and refilled it with fresh dirt that contains sand, topsoil, and compost. Apparently no water has ever made it to this hole. I went to move the hose around, again, and was sucked into quicksand!! LOLOL!! It sucked my foot and shoe into the hole up to my ankle. BLECH!! I'm just glad I had on my gardening tennis shoes and not just sandles.

It deserted the shoe as fast as it could! lol I bought these shoes to try and keep my feet from getting so dirty too!
I'm dying laughing here. That has happened to me! Our soil is delta black soil and when it's wet, you'll sink to your knees in it! Sometimes I'll run the sprinklers then forget and step in the flower bed, suddenly no shoes! Now I have stepping stones so I don't sink. I hope you went back and rescued that shoe.
I guess I better water tomorrow, too. April is our wettest month, shouldn't have to!

All is well, so far. Both I and the shoe are clean now, but not for long. I'm afraid to go out in the bed tho. I'm going to be poking around with a long stick first. lol I was cracking up too when it happened.
Calalily, I naturally have thick clay, but the amended soil on top, and the stuff I fill in the holes with is a lot better. I am fixing to put some stepping stones around too. How do you keep yours from sinking??
Try some large gravel under the stepping stones.
I'm glad you didn't sink to China! Maybe some snowshoes would work, they would distribute the weight so you wouldn't sink.
Imway, I tried the gravel, but it sunk too! I use the flat rocks, the kind you get at the landscaping places. When they sink, I just put more dirt under them. I've tried to set the sprinklers where they don't wet around the rocks but they still sink.
Ha! Note I said large gravel. Just find sumpin that does the job. A boulder?
Hopefully I won't have a problem. Most of my dirt has settled, except for the new part I just cut out, and that hole! lol It's something to think about tho.
I know why there aren't any boulders down here, they've all sunk in the mud!

Of course! That's why all the rock is UNDER the dirt! I actually think I might have rain coming! I better go out and water and wash my car just to make sure.

Yep, our tv weather guy just said it was a maybe for tomorrow! Think I'll hold off watering and see what happens.
NOW the sun is shining! I can't figure out what to do. Guess I'll just go play in the dirt as usual.
If it rains, turn off the water and go in the house play around on DG. Thats my plan.
