Bug Plant (Roridula dentata)
Where did you get Roridula seed pray tell? The only place I have ever heard of selling it is SilverHill from Africa I think.
Say, misery loves company. Glad you caught the CP bug. What seed did you get to germinate the first round?
I didn't get Roridula, I won some seeds of Drosera rotundifolia, Cobra Lily, Darlingtonia californica, and Hooded Pitcher Plant, Sarracenia minor. I was successful at germinating Sarracenia flava, and they seem to be coming along nicely. Just praying they don't damp off.
Have you experience with any or all of these species in germinating them? I suspect they all require a stratification period, like S. flava.
D. rotundifolia should have a cold stratification period of 5 weeks. 4 weeks should be sufficient on the others.
Hooded Pitcher Plant = Sarracenia minor
S. minor is probably my favorite. They look as if they are praying.
Cobra lily = Darlingtonia californica
One is the common name and one is the binomial for the plant.
D. californica is probably the trickiest out of what you mentioned.
Yes, I have germinated all of them with success. Now my S. flava... not doing so well. The seed is turning into little fuzz balls. Not a good sign. I'd say that seed is toast and won't germinate for what ever reason. I hate it when they get that moldy fuzz on them. Good job at germination for your flava. Do your seedlings still have their cotyledon? Those seem to hang on for months in Sarracenia.
At present time the seedlings have the seed coat covering their cotyledon. The largest one is about 1/2" tall. I sowed like 100 of the seeds and got good germination, so when they get bigger (thinking positively), maybe I will have some to share with you.
Thank you for the information on how long to chill the seeds of my new ones. I can't wait to try them out.
I have been reading The Savage Garden, and am going to try a container bog garden. It will be a fun project to do with my children. That's a great book, so much information in it and the pictures in it make me want to get every one of the species LOL.

Oh my gosh, I just was on the phone with Peter D'Amato today for about an hour. You know he has a nursery right? Quite the nursery also. So well appointed. What an inventory! His book is great. When you are done reading that book, let me know and there is another one that I think you will like just as well.
In our forums here, there is a member named Bogman. You might want to search for his bog set up directions as he be da man! Seriously, Bogman's set up directions for a bog are great and they are so direct and to the point. You can't go wrong. I am pretty sure he posted those over in water gardens. Yes, a bog is a great project for children and for their Daddy too!
Thanks for the offer of the S. flava seedlings. That was very kind. Let me know if you get your outdoor bog and I will give you a real nice goodie and there is no need to offer anything in exchange.
All I have to do is search for Bogman's page then look at his threads he has started, right? I'm new in DG and don't know all the tricks to locating information.
So you talked to "the man" eh? That's awesome! His book has nicely detailed information on container bogs but I will look at Bogman's information too. Knowledge is power!
TTYS!

Regarding Bogman, I don’t quite know how to go about finding him or those particular posts from within DG but they are from last fall or maybe it was early winter. I’d check over in our water gardens forum and then click on his name and see what you can find. If you can’t locate the bog threads, let me know and I will call him on the phone and tell him to go looking for you or I will e-mail him the URL to this thread. Bogman is one of my few buddies who joined DG with me.
Peter D’Amato’s phone number will be in a private message to you from me. He is a sweetheart. He loves new CP people but is somewhat introverted in person as opposed to what one would think he would be from his writing style. If you have a question, he will happily answer it. There are others out there but they pretty much stick to themselves.
Here’s Peter’s website-

I ordered from him once and he had great plants that were healthy, packed properly, and shipped in a timely fashion. He has no complaints in the CP department from anyone I know other than that a few people grumble that he is more expensive by about 10% on some plants as opposed to other nurseries but then his inventory is vast. The little bit of price difference must not be too big of a deal as everybody keeps going back. I would order from him again in a heartbeat because of his qualityof plants were it not for the fact that people have been and are continuing to try to give me plants for free and I have run out of growing space. You would pass out but I was just offered a gift of a "Green Monster" for free. Check it out at this website-

I declined the offer. I really want to focus on North American CPs that are in front of bulldozers from native plant communities so that someday… they can be reintroduced to newly created wetlands. Bottom line is that I have space over here allocated for personal plants as well as rescue plants that I’d like to see planted back someday in the local vicinity of their origin. I just can’t absorb any more which is a big disappointment to a few.
The book you might really want to get your hands on would be, “Carnivorous Plants of the United States and Canada” by Donald Schnell. If at all possible, get this book from your library if you can. You will not be displeased.
On a side note, many of my Pings have started to bloom. I'm still waiting on the P. gigantea. Maybe next year on those plants.
