This year I am team captain for our Relay for Life team. For those that dont know its the annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Being a 2x cancer survivor, and possibly my 3rd, this is a pretty special event for me.
We've worked hard as a team, as unorganized as we are, to reach our goal that we set.
One of the events that takes place is a silent auction. I've scrambled my brain trying to find something that i could donate and think i've finally picked JT's seedling EGXPB.
Problem is its not registered and doesnt have a name. I would like to be able to attach a certificate to the plant. How long does registration take? Do they issue certificates?
Now to the fun part....i need a name. Something unique to the cause. Wish i had a pink seedling, but i dont. Besides the relay is not just for breast cancer, its for all of them, so i think an orangey/yellow is appropriate.
It also has about 4 blooms about to open but i would really like it to be in bloom on 4/30. Will drowning it with superbloom in the next 10 days or so increase those odds?
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jen
Need ideas!
MSJen, Wish I knew the answers to your questions, but I wanted to take the opportunity anyway to say I'm proud of you.
The brug will be a great item, I hope you can get things the way you want them for the relay.
How about Victory for the name?
I believe that everyone who participates with you in this fundraiser is most certainly a winner in my book.
Jackie
I think Blessed Survivor, for the Cancer patients, and the Plant .
I wish you great success, maybe a little stronger MG called 'select' would help the blooms.
Good luck.
Doris
Thanks y'all.
I think i'm going to keep the name to "Survivor". i dont suspect it will become a "most sought after" brug, but whoever owns it i'm sure will be thrilled with it.
Thanks again
jen
Just an update,
shes been repotted in a special pot, watered and fertilized and put in a deep shade area so she can recover.
I've got 10 days to get it it up to par and flowering...if not, i can always print out a pic and attach it to it.
She has been registered as "Survivor" and i hope the person that bids on her finds as much enjoyment in these as i do.
Jen
I'm sure they will...congrats!
Survivor is a great choice for a very beautiful brug.
thats what i thought to when read your first post survivor is the name we go for...
Oh WOW, how very special your Brug has become.
As a 2x survivor, I salute you for a job well done MSJen!!!!

I know some hybrizers don't agree with quick releases and especially ones that havent been trialed in other areas, but it worked for me and the cause.
I spoke to the lady in charge of the silent auction tonight and shes thrilled with the idea of having a plant named in honor of the ACS. Shes already projecting the price to go high because people love winning the "different" auctions and she said in all the years shes done it, theres never been a plant auctioned off, let alone one dedicated to them.

MsJen, I hope your cancer never returns and bless you for doing what you are doing with the American Cancer Society.
I attended a memerial last night for a very special woman I knew who lost her fight against cancer. As many people read letters about her, the thing that stood out the most to me was her Courage. Though she fought hard for many years, she never lived liked she was dying and had such a love of life.
Best of luck to you and your event.
PF,
Thank you for your words.
I somehow wonder how i make it through. My courage, and faith, has definatley been tested over the last 1 1/2 years and its not over..just got some notsogood news from the dr last week and i'm afraid that its time to make decisions that i dont want to make.
Courage is defined as: a quality of spirit that enables you to face danger of pain without showing fear....
Problem is i'm now scared. I've never in my life felt such fear and wonder every day, sometimes hourly, how i'm going to get through it. I'm sure just like the other 2x. one day at a time.
Sorry this turned so serious,
Jen
Jen, I am sure you have lots of courage. A day at a time is all you can do. Remember your faith and enjoy your beautiful flowers - they are very therapeutic. Good luck with your Brug name.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
