Vole/Armadillo digging up bulbs/mulch!!

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, what on earth should I do to ELIMINATE this problem from my garden?? I like animals and all, but NOT when they go rummaging around where they don't belong!

Yeah, and I'm a big meanie.......dumped out the bird nest in my nasturtium basket too.....

Bury your bulbs in a wire basket made of chicken wire to protect them from large animals. Smaller beasties need to be trapped because they'll be able to get past the wire. Repellants either don't work or last long. You may have to trap the armadillo and relocate it. We get holes everywhere.

Us too...DH sits outside about an hour after dark with his .22 though. We've tried the traps without success. I feel terrible that he kills them, they need something to eat too!

Oh, don't feel terrible, mydaisy! May have to assign my husband to armadillo duty too! lol I'm just furious--had planted 7 of Brent & Becky's variegated oxalis bulbs out w/some other oxalis, and the d*$& thing ate them all!!

I did walk my beagle around out in the garden bed this morning, hoping that her scent left behind might encourage the wildlife to stay the heck out!!

I also sprayed some "go away" type stuff that I use for my cat & dogs.....we'll see if it works.

My lab, Steel, was barking his fool head off right outside our window at 3:15 am several nights ago. This is VERY unusual for him. Since we also have wild hogs around, DH got up (with his 270) and went outside. Our little dog, Sammy, was on the other side of the house with the armadillo. He had dug a hole to hide in right beside all the water lines! (No shooting there!) DH put a waterhose in the hole to flood him out, the little turd still wouldn't come out of the hole. Only his nose was sticking out. So he runs over to the boat & gets out a gaff, hooks the 'dillo & slings him out into the yard. Sammy is gun-shy, so by this time she's hiding. Now steps in Freckles (rat terrier). The dogs rolled & chased the armadillo for about 15 minutes...until DH finally just pulled them away & shot it. By this time he had aready went back inside to get a smaller gun. I wish I had a video tape of that night!

I wish you had that on tape also.
