What a suberb clear picture of a lovely butterfly

Modi'in, Israel

Ahhhh thank you Ken! What a nice post to wake up to :-) You've made my day!

Unlike all the other butterflies I've tried to photograph here, this one tolerated me very well and only flew off when I got within 20 centimeters of it. So I had a very cooperative model :-)

I agree, that is a gorgeous picture. I love the combination of colours.

Beautiful Julie, how nice he let you get so close. I read somewhere that they have about a 3 foot /come no closer/ range. tho that wasn't true with the little skipper. It did seem to be true of the bigger guys. Glad yu hve ur camera back. ~Blooms

Thanks nightowl2 and Blooms! Skippers are the absolute worst for me to get pics of. I've only managed a single pic of a skipper here....even though I see them almost daily....and of many different kinds. The bigger guys like this one usually just won't land on anything and trying to get a pic of a moving butterfly is...well....beyond my capabilities LOL

He and that bloom are beautiful! I just love the different colors in the butterflies overseas.

Here is someone I spied on yesterday.

Very nice, Julie!

KKB, that's a cute little guy visiting your Dusty Miller???? That's what mine is on :-)

John, thank you :-)

Your Dusty Miller blooms like that?! I don't currently have any but think ours blooms some yellow thing. This little fellow is on some annual Ageratum. It's a good thing you can't see this pitiful little plant. They just came out of a six pack from WM and apparently were grown in peat and can not stay wet.

Well, there lies the problem with using common names. There are unfortunately many many things out there called Dusty Miller. I should have known better than to use a common name....This one is Centaurea gymnocarpa.

Julie:

That is one gorgeous flutterby. And a very "professional" photograph. You may be missing your calling.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Brad, I must agree with you there! Julie takes some great pics.

Oh...., yes, she does!

You know. its name sounds a lot like something the dermatologist took out of my cheek. (facial cheek, that is.). But it is so strange and mystical, as to who (or what) makes up these extraordinary patterns. And all of that species look basically the same.

This Melanargia titea titania, to me, looks a piece of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Things on this earth cannot just have "happened." All things are functional, and most of them seem beautiful. (to us -- or to me, at least)

And not even Darwin says, unequivocally, that is evolution that did it all.

Any suggestions?

Put on sun screen.

imway~

John:

That's what everyone says. But, I have a different theory. I think that Melanoma today, is what results from ferocious sunburns we experienced as kids. My dermatologist is not convinced. She says your entire body should be the same color -- exposed or not!

Quien sabe?

Dermatologist vs flyologist? I'll take the former. LOL

Don't say you didn't get a chance. My second melanoma was on my lower back. That spot hasn't been bare, in the sun, since I was twelve years old.

Hmmmm......Israeli butterfly to melanoma..... Now didn't this thread get turned around rather quickly ....

Thank you all for the very sweet compliments. :-) I'm really touched :-)
