Very pretty!
Have you noticed how pricey some of the columbines are at garden centers this year? I saw some for $14 a pot the other day.
I traded seeds with DG member Bootandall from New Zealand and she sent me 7 kinds of aquilegia seeds...some are sprouting now. I can't wait to see them...but it will be a year for sure before they bloom.
The red passionflower you sent me is taking off. No buds yet, but lots of growth. I am still watching for the asclepias quadrifolia for you. If I see a patch, I am going to try to mark it and go back later for seed.

I'm glad your's is doing so well. Mine didn't survive overwinter. Every other passionflower did but this one... and this one is supossed to be one of the vigourous ones. Could I ask a small favor for just a little cutting?

I know! But then it's hard to buy any plant at a garden center for their prices when I'm mostly used to buying cheap off ebay. These actually weren't so bad, about $5 a plant I guess.

A year is a while but when you see something you've grown from seed, when you're able to complete the cycle, it makes it all worthwhile.

When it gets big enough to whack a piece off, I will root it for you and let you know, Michelle. I nearly lost it when I sprayed it for spider mites...I used a pyrethrin spray on some impatiens and they were right next to it, so I doused it as well. They all looked AWFUL! Back to acephate for me, but boy does it stink. So it is rebounding from that. I expect it to really grow this summer.
Is it better to try and layer a piece than to root a cutting?

Layering might work better (If I remember what it is correctly) bc sticking a peice straight up in medium to root increases rotting chances, rather than if it was just laid on top of medium. Did I get the layering meaning right?

I HATE spider mites, nasty little buggers!

I will try to let a piece loop down and pin it to the soil for you later this year then.
Yes bugs and weeds take a lot of the fun out of gardening!

Thanks Susan!
