Toad Flax, Baby Snapdragon (Linaria maroccana)
Wish this was in my garden, it is just beautiful.
This is one of the easiest things I have ever grown. You can buy a million or so seeds at Home Depot for a few dollars, thrown them on the ground and they just grow, and the colours are incredible. I can count about a dozen varieties of colour. The bees love it, its not fragrant, or at least to me. Since it is an annual, I will wait till next year to see if it comes back radily. I might be cursing this plant if it spreads where I don't want it, lol!!!
The Linaria is the tall one, and unfortunately, you can't see the millions of babies all around the tree. I planted the tall ones last year, saw them this spring and said, "I gotta have more of THESE!"
I gotta go to home depot, I gotta have these.
Vi
Joseph, is THAT what we have? Add that to the list of spring fever and a spring ocld, and gee....lololol....
Your angel trumpet seed is doing well, Joseph! One of few I ever got to sprout. Trying to wait patiently for them to become real plants.....tap...tap....tap......any luck with the clevelandii sage seeds? Not one worked here this year....harumph.....
I will try them, have not tried the clevelandii salvia yet. Is it one that needs smoke residue treatment to germinate? I know some of the native California salvia species need this treatment to germinate.
Thanks for the good news about the seed germination, it is always reassuring to hear I am sending out viable seeds. LOL Send pictures of the flowers! I got some flowers on the tiny seedlings already, so I am hopeful that there will be piles of flowers as the plant matures. (This is the Clytostoma callistegioides, right?)
Off to private email, me thinks, cause if you got the violet trumpet vine seeds to sprout you are the FIRST.
teeee heeeee...okay, pulling off the coffee now. I could SWEAR you didn't want Violet trumpet....lololol....
no don't take my coffee away I will not survive the day! LOL It is funny, I started several B. sanguinea seeds at the same time, and 4 of 5 are just poking along, only 3" tall at most and the 5th one is a giant in size comparison at almost 12 inches. Alas, the giant also is attracting spider mites like crazy. So far it is robust enough to survive them, and the permethrin spray I applied to its leaves.
I wanted you to see a few things: what the earlier shot looks like now that the toadflax has grown in on the first tree (the wind is blowing or they would be straight up), the newest colour of yellow to appear, and what happens when you sprinkle the seeds on the ground generously, second tree. Yikes. WHOOPS! Wrong pic....
