Yesterday Jeanne and I went to Nanaimo to see the Central Vancouver Island Orchid Society show. It was great. Besides CVIOS there were displays from the Victoria Orchid Society and the Fraser Valley Orchid Society and I think one other one. I took a few pictures to share.
Here's Rhyncholaelia Digbyana. I've always liked the frills on this orchid and it has a nice fragrance in the evening I understand.
Orchid Show
And a Pleione. That's about it. There were so many beautiful orchids. I could have looked at them and taken pictures for a few hours I'm sure. I didn't buy any but Jeanne did. Hopefully she'll share a few pictures of her new babies. I haven't been a member of the orchid society for a couple of years so it was nice to get a chance to visit with some of the members.
Their lovely Sandy and what a wide variety! Ü Next time you will have to get the names so your pictures can be added to the Plantfiles. ;)
Sandy, these are terrific photos. Thanks for sharing them with us. The Orchids are exceptional, aren't they. My favorite one was the third Paphiopedilum you posted. Gorgeous! :D
Sandy
Yes that is the orchid I did buy, thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures,
hubby just loves these plans,,
Infact got him one for outdoors it is called
Bletilla (came as a bulb)
will post a picture in a few mins.
One of the vendors had some of them for sale for $7.00 per bulb. How much did you pay for yours? He also had the Pleiones.
I paid $6.50
at the garden centre.
Hey, Wilma. Are you gonna pick up Inanda and Echoes to go take in the Garter Snake Event happening there in Manitoba? Big News...made the National.
No, I have never been but would like to go someday,
It is unreal all those snakes.. waking up from a long winter's nap..
I think it is about a 2 or more hour drive from my house.
Writhing snakes in clusters of passion--no, I think the orchid show would be my pick. Thanks for the pics Sandy. Lovely. I had a little orange masdevallia for about 3 years and then he just quit. I do love that Phychopsis papillio! Aptly named, I think. I have fairly good luck with my orchids except Phals--which are supposed to be easy but then I can make puff pastry but burn cookies? Who knows? Now, Jeanne, what did you buy?
Never mind the snakes. Far more important to talk about the prairie crocus. All in bloom now. Will have to go visit The Living Prairie to see them.
There is a sod house there too. Looking forward to seeing that.
Inanda - always interested in alternative housing.

inanda,
that is a really pretty sight to see,
have fun,
another beautiful day here in Wpg..
Ah, are we talking Pulsatilla? Post pics, please.
My Aunt Gladys lived in a soddy! She was a spinster farmer in (or just out) of Strasbourg, Sask. House cool in summer and warm in winter. Wonderful thing--Window ledges 2 ft in depth. When I last visited in 1969, she still did not trust "the electricity" and kept all her gas lanterns on accordion hinged wooden brackets. She was the first one in Sask to bring in Charolais cattle, and would simply hire farmhands as required. Small, wiry and INDEPENDENT. A true character.
Enjoy your trip.
Lovely orchids, they almost look to good to be real.
Dawn, my grandmother was raised in a sod house near Weyburn SK. I never saw it, but remember her telling of sweeping the dirt floors.
Aha, Linda, perhaps we are related. I surely hope you have nearly recuperated.
