Just got back on line

Millersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

I thought Dave's garden was so slow it was timing out, and even posted a remark about this - somewhere. When my computer slowed down so bad I couldn't even get google, I started to do things to it. Ran- McAffee Virusscan, AVG full scan, spybot search and destroy and ad aware. They found nothing. Contacted my local ISP two days in a row and they said the problem had to be in my telephone lines. Called local telephone company who said they may have to replace all the lines from the pole to the house - at my expense. Told them to send a service man. They said - maybe Monday.

My SIL who does IT work for the Comm. of Pa. stopped in and spent 2 hours checking everything and it was OK.
At 11AM this AM got a call from the telephone co. Serviceman said he had 4 internet related calls this AM and would stop here also. He, like my SIL plugged in his laptop and found my top speed was 28.0 kbs. This was the same as the last four people he had checked. He said there was a problem at a telephone crossover switch and they probably couldn't fix it until Monday.

I said my speed was down to 31.2 kbs all week. He said no one reported it to the telephone co. Heck, I couldn't even pullup Google.

If you are having trouble with slow speed and are on dialup - place your cursor over the internet connection icon and it will tell
you what your connection speed is. If you have a 56 kbs modem, it should be 50 kbs or above.

It is not uncommon for a telephone co. to take a second of transmission speed from several thousand customers to provide a broader spectrum of service. You could not tell this on a land line.

I'm glad to be back on line. I do not think MY company did this. They appeared to want to help me out.
