Hello everyone! Decided to do a quick check in while waiting for a load of laundry to finish. I’ve been trying to check in either during break at work or at home and about the time I get started to post a few lines, I am needed for some reason.
Work has been crazy. We're wondering if there was a full moon this week. We've been getting a lot of strange calls with very strange questions.
Julia is home this weekend. Her dad has a huge list of things to be accomplished. So far they have weaned a pen of lambs (two pens were done last week) and pulled up electric fence around corn stalks. I just came in from helping move cows from one lot back to another so we can keep an eye on them as they start coming into heat. We are almost done calving. There are two left: Reba, an older cow is due anytime and, JJ, a heifer, is pregnant but unsure when she is due. So far, knock on wood, we are only bottling one calf and she was one of twins.
Joe has been going to farm sales trying to buy a small square baler but the good ones have been selling high. Farm sale items are selling well for the seller.
On Thursday we received some much needed rain. It soaked in quickly. Last week there were some close grass fires. Today it feels muggy out.
We still have the one boy puppy to sell. We are keeping the one female. Haven’t decided on a name yet. We call them puppies. Their mother really plays well with them. However, we really have to keep an eye on them as they will follow Abbey into the ewe pen.
My dad is doing a little better now that he got his medications straightened out. The doctor told him he couldn’t drive for at least two months. Thank God we did get them moved to town so he can walk places. Unfortunately, this will keep him from gardening out at the farm. And this was one of the reasons we sold the farm to the neighbors so he could keep farming out there. Sometimes I wished I would have insisted they sold to highest bidder as money will still be tight for them. Oh well. This weekend they are babysitting my brother’s golden retriever, Hagen.
Better go – laundry is done. You all take care.
