The cedar sage (Salvia roemeriana) blooms are a brilliant true red (shown here backlit by afternoon sun) which brighten up any partial shade or light shade area. It is a nativeTexas perennial.

I have seedlings of this one going and hope it is happy here in Delaware. I guess it will be an annual here, what do you think?

I just bought mine. It is a great looking plant and will do well in filtered shade here I hope. The color of the blooms are so bright and cheery. Several sites state that it is root hardy in your zone so hopefully it will be a perennial for you. Just deeply mulch them in the winter. You may want to keep some in pots and move them into a sheltered area in the winter if you have room to do so. They would be backups in case the ones in the ground don't make it. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks, Michelle. I apprecaite your comments. I still haven't planted it because I am still pondering where the perfect spot for it will be.

Excellent photo htop. I'm also giving it a try this year to see if it will bloom for me as an annual. I bet the hummingbirds love that one. Do you have this planted in rich soil or just average or is it in a rock garden? I had read that it was good for rock gardens & containers.

broots, I haven't planted it yet because I haven't decided on the perfect spot for it. I haven't seen any hummers yet in my locale, but I am sure they will love it. It likes just average soil and is well suited for rock gardens. Thanks for your comments.
