What the heck does "water regularly" mean? Once a week? When dry? Every day?
It's in the shade on the porch and I'm guessing I'm keeping it too wet. It started wilting yesterday and today it looks terrible. Ack!
Help?
My new Fuchsia is wilting :(
mine wilts when its thirsty and it seems to want water every other day. mine is in a hanging pot. mine is in the shade too.
if the soil in the pot is still wet let it dry out. if its dry water it. these things are just hard to do.
you may have to change the soil in it also.
Some fuchsias are not heat tolerant, they will wilt if it's hot even if they are wet. There are a few heat tolerant ones, but not many. Most prefer PNW climate or New England climate.
I had the variegated heat tolerant one and it didn't make it either. I think it is more humidity than actual heat. I had columbines, foxglove and delphinimums that died almost over night when the humidity/warm nights kicked in. Even in total shade they died
How new is your plant? Has it been in a GH before you bought it? I'm just wondering if you might be experiencing some adjustment wilt. How high of temps do you have during the the day compared to night? What I'm getting at is that this may all be do to it's new enviornment. Just a thought.
I have to water my hanging basket Fuchsia's every day during the summer months. I water them and then about 30 mins later water them again to insure they are watered throughly.
Well, I went out this morning to bring it inside and it looked better than yesterday. I guess 90 degrees doesn't agree with it's constitution. I have a lovely indoor fushcia now. Oh, well.
I got it just over two weeks ago from HD where it was kept outside. I repotted it last weekend and the temperature started going up this week. It still gets down to 50something at night, though.
Do I have to worry about overwatering if I keep it inside or can I just keep it moist with daily waterings? Will misting help in my dry climate?
It was labeled "Patio Bouquet 'R' Fuchsia." I know pretty close to zip about it. :P
In high heat I've watered mine outside 3 times a day....that's when Saskatchewan (also very dry) can hit 3 or 4 weeks with temps in the 90's to low 100's.
Hmm. I really do want it to be outside but I can't bear losing it. I don't think I could get to it 3 times a day - not even when I'm off work!
It does get difficult (and I don't have the heat as long as you).....seems we were running out at 7:00 am, 12 noon (I work nearby) and after work again. The summers that are the worst are when the fronts come up from Texas and the nights don't cool off.
Hey I pack mine around the roots with ice in the morning (dont let it touch the plant!) and it waters it all day with out me having to be there.
Ice! LOL! A whole new dimension to the term "drip system!"
mine is growing happily underneath a magnolia tree in a hanging basket in full blast humidity...
i water every other day.....i don't think heat so much is the problem but i would pay attention to how much you are watering. i have a thick layer of pine straw mulch in the pot, and i think that really helps.
