Such a day...

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

I decided to take advantage of the last decent day before the next round of rainy days to work in MY garden. I found out yesterday at the nursery that I planted my Camellia in the wrong spot. Apparently they like part shade and sheltered location. I had her in Full Sun, so I carefully calculated where I was going to dig a new bed for her in my back yard, east exposure, close to the deck. Dug the hole, made up a wonderful mixture of nutritious soil for my little Camellia and then carefully transfered her to the new location. Done! Now, I also heard yesterday that my Annabelle Hydrangea should have Part Sun as well, but more than she gets now in a mostly North exposure. So dug Anne up and carefully moved her to a wonderfully prepared spot for her in my front flower bed, but in a spot sheltered a bit by a huge Cedar. Done! Bought a Cotinus coggygria (Grace Smoke Bush) yesterday, so once again, dug a hole in my West flower bed (Full Sun) and lovingly placed her in it with lots of good nutritious prepared soil. Done! So yesterday, I also bought some perennial alpine plants for rock garden surrounding my pond. I ended up buying Gratianopolitanus Dianthus (Tiny Rubios), Dianthus deltoides (Arctic Fire), Dianthus plumarius (Pink Spring Beauty) and a Renardii Geranium along with a couple succulents. Took me about 45 minutes to get all of them planted in the rocks around the pond, and then, happy with my accomplishments for the morning, I started back to the house...I am surprised you couldn't hear me yell all the way over the Rockies down to the Laurentians!!! My little bugger dog had dug up my wonderfully & lovingly prepared bed for my precious little Camellia, and there she lay, roots bared and pointing to the sky and my nutritious soil scattered for yards around the empty hole!!!! I could have killed him! I managed to mix up more soil, and replaced Camelia in her hole, said a prayer...and now it's in God's Hands. Buddy is, as we speak, still hiding behind the garden shed with a sore little behind, and he can stay there until is Daddy comes home, 'cause he knows not to show his face around me for a while! So...such a day! Think I'll have a drink. I think I deserve it! Everybody say a little prayer for the speedy recovery of my little Camellia. Otherwise, it could be a funeral...for both plant AND dog!

Holly Cow Donna!!! I think I'd make that a double on the rocks...lol
One thing forsure , you know how to dig...and no-one can take that away from you!
I have full confidence that you Camellia will make it..I don't think they're that delicate.

I believe your dear Buddy was just trying to help with all that was ahead of you. Look at this way he probably was just trying to get pointers from you.....so you'd be proud of him in his gardening techniques...
I can relate to that with Misty Girl here....

I thought I heard distant wail today. Such a strong wind must have carried it over. I think you better get used to the idea that Buddy loves that Camelia more than you do, and doesn't want it there. He must want it somewhere else.

He'll be somewhere else...soon, if he's not careful. :-t

Hey! Remember - you're in his garden.

Bad, bad, cute little doggie ;-) And poor you. At least he only got the one....right? Wonder if Camellia's new spot was 6" above his favourite bone or something?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Crossing fingers and toes for your Camellia Donna!

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Thanks Shannon and Pam. No, there was no dog bone. I dug the hole about a foot down in the mountain rock before filling it with potting soil mixture. I have my fingers crossed too, Pam. DH put a wire cage around Camellia last night. Not too attractive, but he can't get at it now. He had to completely enclose my raised bed garden area I use for Vegetable planting last fall, as doggie was constantly digging in there too. We have a digger, I'm afraid...

Donna
hope that your doggie has learnt it's lesson, and stay out of the flower, veggie bed,
some dogs are just diggers.
Should have called him Digger..
have a great day..
hope your plants make it after working so hard to get them just right.

Thanks Wilma. I have my fingers crossed.

Hope you had a good drink. I'm rooting for your baby! Your doggie thought he was helping. Now I know why it was so windy last night....lol.

Had two, Donna. Good ones too. It didn't seem as important after that. :D
