Brug Y

East Prairie, MO(Zone 7a)

Last winter I cut my only brug back to the Y and pottend it in the pot you see. It did not have any leaves on it at all. Now it has leaves. I have not put it outside yet because the temperature gets down into the 40's at night sometimes. Can I take this plant and get more cuttings from it now? It is about 2 feet tall. If I can will it bloom this year. If I can how many cutting could I get. As you can tell by other post I am a newbie when it comes to raising brugs. But I love reading the post and learning all the time.

Well, I know someone will come along that will give you all the answers better than I will lol...I'm no expert but I can see just by looking at your pic posted if you leave it alone just the way it is....you will see flowers this summer...:-) If it were me, I wouldnt cut it yet. But that isn't saying you can't cut it. You probably could but it would have to 'Y' again which it probably will do coming from the upper region of the 'Y'. This is just from my experience. :)

Welcome to the Brug World Sami!!

Thanks Julie
I want it to bloom so better just leave it alone. I thought maybe I would get two plants out of the one and gets blooms too. It was so tall and lanky last year and it did not have very many blooms on it. From what I have been looking at I really like the ones that are bushy and they seem to have more blooms on them than what I had when they are short like that instead of tall

oh yes, you will have lots of flowers this year, and did I tell you you will have more cuttings too once that cute little brug takes off with regular fertilizing. It will be a bush if you keep it the way it is. I have some like this and it made a short bush for me last year and I line my front property with them. Good luck to you and I hope you will have many flowers. Post them and let us see how you're doing. I love to look at pictures.

It looks so healthy too! Doing a great job :-)

Sami I wouldn't cut it. Usually they will put new growth off the roots or at the bottom and you can root that without bothering the mother plant.

Got so busy taking care of my little brug seedlings that almost forgot about my mama brug. I was taking a shower tonight and notice that the leaves were looking powdery. Took a closer look and it had spider webs on it. Grab my dish soap and water and hydrogen peroxide and started spraying. Couldn't remember the solution and put 2 table spoons of soap and perioxide together. I hope I have not neglected it to were the spiders have killed it. Couldn't find the right recipe for it and have not bought any insectisides this year.

I am very new to Brugs and have noticed the "Y" mentioned a couple of times. What is the importance of it and does it form naturally on a plant or do you have to do something to get it. I started with a large piece of trunk and it has stems coming off both sides of the trunk. Is that a "Y".

I am also new to this but I understand that is where the blooms come in at. I am sure Some of the pro's will jump in here and explain it to you.

OOOPS !

I forgot to add that the liquid dish soap can be any old cheap-o brand

BUT Never any of the newer anti-bacterial or Grease cutter formulas.

Didn't have to worry about that stuff back then.
