Just so you know, I don't buy annuals from Home Depot, I prefer the nurseries. BUT, I was in there today and bought 2 ensete ventricosum maurellii bananas for $8.97 each. They're about 3 feet tall and have wonderful colour. They look healthy too. I also bought a large chlorophytum Fireflash that is just gorgeous.It has big orange stems.
So heads up to the zone denial people, stuff is starting to arrive.

Paradise - Just so that you know the peonies are not plants but bare roots that come in a plastic bag. I was unsure whether I was going to buy them because the bag was a solid green plastic that I couldn't see into to check them out. They turned out to be substantial and in great shape. Also, I think that the dark colored bag keeps out the light that encourages the root to start sprouting (it could be a while yet before I can get them out in the garden). I bought another peony at Walmart (Sarah Bernhardt) that was in clear plastic and it had significant sprouts already. I potted this one today to grow until I can get it outside.
At Home Depot I also bought a package of 3 daylily roots (Catherine Woodbury) for the same price $4.98 and a package of 3 Stargazer lilies for $3.98.

If its nice weather any time the next 2 weeks, the Snowbirds are there doing their twice daily practices.

I was thinking of you when I was waiting for my mom but there were signs everywhere that said you couldn't use cell phones. I thought of going out to the car but it was quite a long way back there. Next time when I'm down for a longer period of time.
