Wow Mel....that awesome, I'd be all excited with one bloom cluster...you have three on there from what I see.

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

Amen! ricfl. One little bloom would be cool.
I wouldn't want to come to work!

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Congrats, so how do you like the fragrance?

New Iberia, LA

Thanks, my friends. I have been watching those peduncles for months! They jumped to flower buds really quickly, but, I thought they would never open. It is well worth the wait!! I can't seem to stay out the greenhouse as the rest of the buds open up.

I can detect only a slight fragrance. Will it become more fragrant as the blooms mature? These are my first Archie blooms.

It's beautiful Mel!! I keep watching mine, but nothing yet.

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

As with most Hoyas the fragrance is strongest in the evening and my archboldiana gave carnosa and pubicalyx a run for their money.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Mel your Archie looks wonderful!!! Ü

What is the narrow leafed Hoya beside it?

Knoxville, TN

Well, I will be sniffing Archie tonight!

Thanks so much, Lilypon! The narrow leaf plant is H. shepherdi, which is also known as the string bean Hoya. It also has a marvelous fragrance when blooming.

I simply adore the sensory overload!

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Wow Mel that's just awesome:-). I'm so happy for you...sigh...I know my will flowa eventually.

Mel,
The next time I drive through TN,i'm coming to raid your greenhouse!!! Great picture, I used to see the stringbean hoya for sale at the grocery stores around here but don't see very many hoyas in them anymore except for hindu ropes and carnosas.

Knoxville, TN

Thanks, David! I will be mad at you if you don't stop by and raid my greenhouse if you are in the area!!!

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Mel, so did you do your "sniffing tour" last night?

Decatur, IN(Zone 5a)

Congratulations! Mel....what a beauty. I bet you already forgot about how mad you were with "Archie". Hoyas are just like kids, first they get us mad at them then they go do something to make us smile & forget that we were mad at them. Enjoy,

Gemila

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, Mel that's a beauty. Congrats!

Knoxville, TN

Thanks again for your compliments.

As a matter of fact, I did not some late night sniffing. I only got a hint of fragrance from the blooms. Competition is stiff for flower sniffing as between the lacunosa, a jasmine or 2 and a few other tropicals blooming in the greenhouse, it is hard to tell.

No Gemila, I just couldn't stay mad at Archie. It simply was not worth it!

Congrats, Meltn. Very, very nice! :D

Beautiful flowers Mel, congratulations! Its always so exciting when a hoya blooms, but the first time is very special indeed.

Knoxville, TN

I just came from the greenhouse where I stuck my nose into the H. archboldiana. Man was I wrong. The fragrance is amazing..like some exotic perfume. It is nothing short of intoxicating!! I LOVE IT!!

Wow. Mel, such gorgeous blooms and fragrant as well!

Just how long did yours take to form peduncles and then open?

Can't wait for mine to bloom.

Knoxville, TN

Karen,
I noticed peduncles forming last fall and wondered if Archie would EVER bloom. They were slow to develop, but, once they started spreading out and swelling, it was less than a month until the flowers opened. I promise that it is well worth the wait!!!
