Why do we worry so much?

Last week I was going thru a bunch of seedling, and there was one where the top growth had died and the stem was, like, pinched. So I heaved it out on the ground in the rain/sun etc.

Yesterday I found it had sprouted two little leaf buds. Hello? So, I picked it up, roots and all hanging out, no dirt left in them, and potted it up again. Now, this was only about 5" tall and green green green. Go figger. I decided it will probably be the best out of the lot since it has such good survival skills....

WTG!!

Carol, How true!
That little seedling might be your next Monster Brug of the year with excellent survival skills learned from a young age... LOL Tough Love provided by Carol.
I know I have just thrown some cuttings down on the ground or in a pot and they root on their own without anything special done or attention. Go figure

Yes, but what do you do with a phychopathically maschochistic brug? It only grows and thrives when beaten around... Cheech...not my lifestyle...gave that up at 50!!!

Ok, so I will scream at it...kick it a couple of t imes a month and see if it helps. Probably will!

WHY WORRY??? Show me someone who DOESN'T worry and I'll show you someone who just doesn't get it! You think its not tough getting these seeds to germinate while dodging snowflakes and shivering uncontrollably from the cold then trying to coax them to maturity and beyond that to fruition and the realization of their true destiny? All the pitfalls that nature can dream up await the weary, bedraggled gardener who would make so bold as to try this propagation by seed thing. Why worry indeed! Maybe if you live in paradise (aka Hawaii) then you don't have to worry but us poor mortals shall worry until we are called home to that great garden in the sky)!

Spring Hill, Fla?

I was not bragging nor belittling the wonderful brugs others grow. But an unpotted seedling thrown out on a field, going thru harsh sun and 3" of rain while out there actually thriving impressed me. It really did.

Gosh, you had snow in Florida?

I admire the heck out of all of you growers who haul your pots in and out, up and down....

I posted it because it said something to me. I meant nothing else by that post. Sorry you were offended by it.

Whoa! I was not offended in any way but a little parody seemed called for. It not only did not snow in Florida but we didn't shiver from the cold while planting our seeds either, we waited 'til it warmed up! Try not to worry so much and enjoy the fresh pineapples for gosh sake heeheehee

Isn't it wonderful when we get a surprise like that? :)

I was cleaning out my flower bed, and saw this lil ole green thingy sticking up, and sure enough, as I went to pull it, realized it was the end (or the start) of a brug I had transplanted into the ground in the front of my home. Was sure I had gotten the entire root.

Thought to myself, if you want to live, then so be it!

Those roots are amazingly strong!

A happy brugger

Excellent story Carol, thanks! I'd have to list that puppy as a 'volunteer' which it kind of was, coming back from the 'dead' and all. Volunteers are always my favorite surprises and tend to be the most vigorous of the group for me.

I was surprised when I first had volunteer castor beans sprout. Tender tropical plants my foot. Those seed pods had lain where they fell, out in the open through the cold, desiccating wind and sun and even covered with salt laden snow from the city's plows.
