HAVE: Water Celery, Named Cannas, Creeping Jenny, Chameleon

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Hi all,

I have lots of plants great for the pond. Any ponders out there? I have:

Tons of Water Celery
a bit of Creeping Jenny (stuff it in a waterfall and it's beautiful!)
some Chameleon plant

These Cannas:

Pretoria
Richard Wallace
Florence Vaughn
Miss Oklahoma
Rosemond Cole
Pink Beauty
Red Dazzler
Crimson Beauty
China Doll
Red Futurity
Tangelo
Spitfire
China Lass
Red Wine
Orange Punch
Apricot frost
Tropicanna Gold
Striped Beauty (Christ's Light)
Orange Beauty
Tropical Sunrise

FYI: Any canna can be placed in the pond. Pot the rhizomes and let them grow a few leaves. Then set them shallowly in the pond with only the bottom inch or two of the pot in the water. They'll grow splendidly as they all love water.

I also have these perennials:

Blue Stocking Monarda
Orange/red Crocosmias
Lavender Obedient Plant
Oriental Limelight Artemesia
A small start of Wide Brim Hosta
A small start of Honeybells Hosta (will tolerate a bit of sun)
Siberian irises - blue, purple (I think one is Caesar and one is Caesar's Brother)
Heirloom White Bearded Irises
Iceberg Sedum (stonecrop with white blooms, similar to Autumn Joy)
Violets - dark purple
Violets - white with lavender face
Lots of Vinca Minor
Lots of Vinca Major
A bit of Variegated Vinca Major
Kwanzo daylilies
Blooming size Naked Ladies

I am looking for:

Water Hyacinths
Other exotic pond plants
Other named cannas
Named Louisiana irises
Named Siberian irises
Named Japanese irises
Named Daylilies
Named elephant ears
Red or Pink ROOTED dinnerplate hibiscus
Double hollyhocks
Variegated Wiegela
Butterfly Bushes
Variegated hydrangeas
Named Peonies
Paulownia Trees
Pink Pampas Grass
Plants with the name Terry

And I'm not sure what else. I'm landscaping my brother's yard in a big way, starting from scratch with nothing. So we need trees, shrubs, and perennials--easy maintenance stuff because he's not gonna work too hard. His favorite colors are purple and red. And his name is Terry. So I'd love plants with his name in them to add a personal touch. He hates thorns, so no roses or barberries.

Any ideas are welcome!

Thank you for reading this long post.

I have Canna 'Stadt Fellbach' and 'Madame Butterfly', Lysimachia 'firecracker' , Petasites japonica. Corydalis flexuosa 'china blue',
variagated solomon's seal,
hostas
Rheum palmatum 'Tanguticum'
Alchemilla mollis
Achillea millefolium 'Moonshine'
Arum italicum
Juncus effusus 'unicorn'
Digitalis purpurea (talk about easy)
Lots of mature torch lilies (yellow and red flower)
Sysrinchium striatum (yellow eye grass)
Iris japonica
Old fashioned purple lilacs (
I also have a beautiful blue butterfly bush, but I'd have to send cuttings. Also have a lacecap blue variageted hydrangea, but, again, cuttings.

I'd be interested in cannas, oriental limelight artemesia, water celery, and , maybe, cameleon plant.

Let me know if you are interested.

Wow, Melissa, what a nice list! I already have those two cannas, which are two of my faves. But I would love to have these:

Petasites Japonica
Corydalis flexuosa China Blue
Lysimachia Firecracker
Rheum Palmatum Tanguticum - been on my wish list for years!
Mature Torch Lilies
Iris Japonica

Which cannas did you want? These are huge rhizomes, so I think one canna would equal one plant. Because they're so large, they'll weight a bit. These aren't puny rhizomes like you buy at Walmart. I would like a few of the Torch Lilies, so let me know what you think is fair. I have pictures and descriptions of most of the cannas in my Ebay store. I'm "thebutterflyranch" at Ebay.

We can do a large trade if you like. I could send you extra cannas for more of the plants I listed above. The Lysimachia is the only one I don't really want a lot. I know how Loosestrife will spread. I'm almost scared to grow it. Do you have trouble controlling it?

Anyway, let me know if you think we can work something out. I'm very interested in trading with you.

NancyAnn

Would you be interested in trading some crocosmias for
2 crepe myrtle seedlings? The seedlings are about 2 feet tall and
they are white. They will grow very large, 25 feet or so.

NancyAnn, Yes, I"m sure we can work a trade. It's fine to do a large trade.
The lysimachia would be best contained. It does tend to take over, but it is very beautiful. I know I can send you plenty of that because I learned about its habit the hard way! Hah!
I can send you two good sized petasites roots that are leafing out, one has bloomed already.
I can send you a small clump of the china blue, probably what you'd get in a full 4" pot.
The Rheum palmatum is a good sized plant at least a couple of years old. (watch the slugs. they love it)
I can send you 8 Iris Japonica
and 4 clumps of torch lily, some of which can be divided into more plants already.

I am interested in the following cannas: Apricot Frost, Aida, Cleopatra (not on your list, but on your Ebay store), Tropical Sunrise.

I've never grown cannas and am not sure how they will do in my garden. I am working on a large pond and plant to incorporate them into the pond. The pretoria and madame butterfly that I offered are some i bought this year, but I have a few of them. Looks like you are a canna expert, so I may have questions for you later!

I guess I'd consider that one clump of the torch lilies would be one canna. I'll send you two clumps that are 4 plants each for 2 cannas if you agree. You can send me two of one of the shorter varieties.
I'll do the iris japonica for 1 canna,
the rheum for 1 canna,
and the petasites 1 large root for 1 canna. If you want two roots, just send two cannas. Two of the Cleopatra would be nice, but if you have fewer of these , two of the others would be fine, or if you can recommend a short variety that has a softer color, I'll go with your recommendation. I just stay away from 'hot' colors because they don't go with my other stuff. The pretoria may even be too 'hot for my garden but I love the leaves.

So that takes care of the cannas.

The China Blue I'll trade for some artemesia. (isn't that invasive? How does it invade? through seed or through runners?)

The lysimachia I'll trade for some water celery.

So I think that takes care of it, unless you have other perennials or waterplants to offer? LOL

Let me know what your final list looks like. And let me know how to control the artemesia. I've been watching the 'what I'm sorry I planted' thread under perennials, and the artemsia is listed by lots of folks. I listed the lysimachia and the petasites! I'm not sorry I have these beautiful plants, only that I was too ignorant to contain them! On the other hand, I have plenty to trade, and they are desireable plants, so it's not too bad!
Oh, I'd be glad to include some cuttings from the hydrangea and the butterfly bush if you are interested.

Butterflychaser For your brother I have (if you have shade or part shade) aspidistra aka cast iron plant I can send you for a Pretoria rhyzome. I also have a 6" seedling of hibiscus acetosella if that would be of more interest. PLMK. thanks

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Hey Vossner,

Cast Iron plant isn't hardy here, and Terry doesn't do houseplants. I have seedlings of the acetosella as well. Thank you for responding though.
