Howard, PA(Zone 6b)

Anyone know when the hummingbirds make it to Central Pa? I put out some feeders, just in case!!

mmoyer - see the http://www.hummingbirds.net/map.html website and click on last year's migration map. It will show what dates they showed up in 2004. Becky

Hi, Tabasco,

Just goes to show you how busy I have been! I didn't find your message until today.

I have had 3 instances of a single (I think, in my limited experience) ruby-thorated hummers who came by, usually after 8 p.m. I normally get home around 8 p.m., so...but I was like a little kid. I haven't seen very many of them, and my mouth was hung open the whole time. Wow! don't think I breathed! I just refreshed the sugar water as it has been over a week and I heard they could get sick if you don't change and disinfect the feeders. But they don't seem to be very prolific here. Also, I don't have many trees for them to perch in and hide.

How about you? Had a few hummin' around already?!

melissa- we have a few visiting HBs this summer, but nothing like last year... I think last year's hurricanes really wiped out much of the HB migratory population and our low count is a result of that.

If you get home at 8 you probably miss a lot of visitors earlier in the day...

I noticed my feeder with the red ribbon decoration, is getting the most business, by the way...

did you see the thread which talked about the man who gets thousands of hummers to his yard? he's in TX, though, and I think they get all the migrators coming thru...

good luck. t.
