Maya cuttings field report Edgewater, Maryland
look great how where do you get them??
I got these from scooterbug and Kell. This is an experiment thats going on with a bunch of us after one of Kells stems broke off.
Janet,
They are looking goooooooood!
Jackie
Thats interesting a couple of you had comparably fast top growth. As soon as my nubs got spikey I planted them and leafs came a few days after. I wonder if it's because the rooms I've started mine in may be cooler than your? The house thermostat is 68 during the day. The basement is cooler than that unless they're right up under a light.
Good job and glad to see another field report started!

My thermostat is usualy set at 70 but Ive had it turned off the last couple of days and it stays close to that. I also have it in a north facing window, er french door. It gets direct morning light. I love the leaves but I really wish the roots would hurry up. I dont want to add anything to the water because it seems like anytime I do thats when it dies. Go figure.
Dravencat, lookin good up there in MD :-)
Looks like you got a pretty good couple of cuttings too and I love all those leaves I'm seeing too!
My plant is out on the back porch which gets the sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. Also, it's on the East side of my house. It stays around mid 70's to 80 out there during the day. Seems to be liking it.

Sounds good Julie, to be honest I was kinda waiting for at least one to keel over, but crossing my fingers and knocking on wood. I was wondering if they should be potted up now but Id feel better waiting to see some actual roots first, so, I wait.
The leaves are beautiful on these and I so cant wait to see the flowers.
Janet
I'll cross my didget's for the both of us....one of mine DID bite the dust :( already. But that's the good thing....I got another chance!!! lol...be well
Julie
Top growth still growing and looking really good. Not much change in nubbie or root growth. No rotting noted except for the tip of cutting B drying out.
Note to self: the fuzzy leaves are so neat and soft, its hard not to pet this plant. heehee
Potted up cutting B 4-24 , no roots showing but small nubbies. Growth is still steady and looking nice and healthy.
Cutting A wil get potted up today, small root growth showing, still nice and healthy looking and new growth slow and steady.
Cuttings are still being kept inside as the weather is too unpredictable, some days 80 some days 65.
I have to say Thank You again to Kell and scooterbug. Thank You!! This is a fantastic oportunity.
Pics coming soon.
Wonderful progress report.
Judy
Your two Maya's are looking wonderful. Very nice leaves on them. I need to post another picture of mine. I only had the one that survived but it is coming around.
Linda
Used miracle grow potting soil, nothing else added at this time. Cutting A on left of pic I just put out to take the pic of them together. This was Cutting As first time outside, I will move these to a more sheltered spot until they acclimate more to the outside and "remmeber" to bring them in at night. I will be looking for roots to show at bottom of pots before I pot them up to larger pots that are waiting just for them. Water once a day in the am and watching for any little bugers that try to claim them, these are MINE and they cant have them. LOL
Thanks Linda, Im hoping that Ill be able to share these in the future with others. If it werent for how giving others are here I wouldnt have them either. Now I need to try and talk Nat into letting me have some of her beautiful white. heehee.
I am not addicted I am not addicted I am not... well ok I am.
Woo hoo!! Looking good there.
I keep thinking I'll take mine out to the HH but wimp out and keep them in the basement. Figure I'll post-pone their introduction to whiteflys, beer and loud music. :)
Hmmmm maybe they like loud music. DD and me like to turn up the radio when we clean(that keeps the stomping noises as we dance around not cleaning to a minimum). They get quite a mixture of music. Bluegrass, country, hip-hop, top 10 and a few others, just not elevator muzak, cant stand the stuff. During the day they listen to the Disney channel alot during the day, I think theyre favorite show is the Wiggles, heehee.
Ditto Blaine!! Dravencat, they look wonderful! Awesome! My one Maya that is surviving is now outside too! Soaking in the sun :)
Julie
