What are your favorite canna lilies? I'm looking for something in a bright color (red, orange, or maybe hot pink) that has fabulous foliage.
Where is the best place to shop for cannas?
Favorite canna?
Tropicanna is a good one. If you look on the left side of the picture you can see the orange blooms and the bright colored foliage of Tropicanna.
I like Princess Di, tho she is more of an apricot color. Valentine is a gorgeous canna if you can find it. Bright Cherry red in color. Horn Canna Farms is a great place to order from. http://www.cannas.net/prodpages/product.htm They don't have all of them, but a good selection.
I second Barb on the Tropicana canna. I also like Pretoria or Bengal Tiger.

Since we don't have to dig the tubers in our climate, we have it really easy with these things. :-) I've found that of the half dozen or so I have, the Tropicana performs the best and consistantly gets better over the years. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/3301/index.html
It is also the one I see most often in my nursery visits, available at the big box stores as well as most retail nurseries.
Thanks for the recommendations. Has anyone tried Black Knight? It has the cool red color that I'd love to try. It's on the Horn canna site.
I also like the picture of Valentine in the Plant Files. I'll have to try to find some pics that show the foliage on this one.
Valentine has normal green foliage with a very thin redish edge . Nothing special, but the bloom is so elegant that it is worth it.
I'm a canna addict, so you may regret asking me this question. LOL
My favorites:
Tropicanna for the foliage
Black Knight for foliage and bloom
Robert Kemp for the unusual torch like red blooms
Madame Butterfly - beautiful peachy pink
Tropical Sunrise - pink and peach streaked
Journey's End - Yellow with pink blush
Spitfire for the fiery red and orange streaked blooms
Red Wine for the beautiful pink-red bloom and burgundy foliage
Red Stripe for the huge red and green foliage
Gaiety for the bold orange and yellow blooms
Princess Di and Stadt Feltback for their light peach blooms
Madame Butterfly for the wonderful peachy pink blooms
Richard Wallace - the BEST yellow
China Lass - Beautiful Pink
That's probably more than you wanted to know. Sorry! LOL

Don't worry, NancyAnn, that's not more than I wanted to know. I'm glad to see that you like Black Knight, since it's one of the ones I'm considering. The rest of them sound wonderful too and I'll have fun looking them up.
I have Black Knight and I like it. I have Tropicana and it hasn't done well here, but it could be my soil(which I've improved so we will see how Tropicana does this year). I have Australia and it has to be one of my favorites. It has the darkest foliage of any canna and the blooms are nice.
Cala, this is the second mention on Australia. do you have a source you recommend. I'm getting Tropicana at the Mercer swap on 4/23 so we'll see how it does for me
Wow, those pictures of Australia look great. Just the flashy blooms and foliage I'm looking for.
There are two sources listed in the PlantFiles, Bentley Gardens and Karchesky Canna. (Both have 100% positive ratings.)

If you haven't ordered 'Australia' yet, check Navlet's first. I got a 1 gallon today for 9.99. Nicely grown and healthy looking.
Candy, is there a Navlet's in your area? I'm going to be by there on Saturday for a club meeting. Thanks for the tip. (I'm sure there's a lot of other plants there I'd want too!)
There are several on your way up 680, I think that's the way you usually come isn't it?
One in Danville, directly off the east side of the freeway at Sycamore Road. One in Pleasant Hill on the west side of the freeway at Monument Blvd. One on Kirker Pass on the border of Clayton & Concord.
Check the website, I think there are maps....yep there are maps.

Thanks, Candy.
Wow. NancyAnn Thanks for the list. I just looked a bunch of those up in the plantfiles. Definitely hooked on something new. I never knew they came in all kinda of colors. Gotta start searching for them around here!!
