Just look what he got, and set up, for me. It may not look like much to more experienced gardeners, but it's perfect for a beginner like me. This, of course is only the frame. We'll put the cover on it when I figure out where I want to put it. I'm just as thrilled as I can be. This is a better gift for me than a diamond. lol
I Have A Wonderful Husband!!
I know just how you feel! My wonderful husband put mine up and he couldn't have given me a better gift! I know you'll have a great time with it!
Yep, you've been bit and bit real good.
Congratulations. Not only for the wonderful gift, but also for the great husband. My DH is great; I wouldn't exchange him for anyone else, but he'd never think of this sort of gift. I know you'll have a marvelous time with it. I wonder how long it's going to take you to fill it? HeHe. Dotti
Just makes you remember why you married him doesn't it! The best present hubby ever got me was a pet rat, because he thought of it all by himself and I love rodents. Can't wait to see photos of all the plants you'll be playing with now!
I wanted it mainly because I'm starting seeds for the first time, and I didn't want to sow them directly into the ground because I was afraid my cats would dig them up. I had my seed tray wrapped in plastic, and sitting on top of the air conditioner. I had seen this greenhouse in the box on several occasions when we were shopping for other things. I was interested in it, but I just didn't know. One day, I went to that store to buy a big bag of cat food, and they had one set up. It looked pretty nice, and I told him that I'd finally seen it set up, and I think I do want it. He said, well then lets go get it. Isn't he great.
Now I have a question as to where to put it. If I put it up against the shed, it gets morning sunlight. If I put it against the house, it gets afternoon sunlight. Which is best for growing from seeds?
I am thinking morning sun would be best.. but you need at least 6 hours total
jdee, great dh. I have two of them and love them but do be careful ol location. It will get very hot inside when the sun shines on it. I have both of mine in my roofed over 14' x 12' passage way between house and garage whete they get sun until about noon. Some days I have to unzip the front door for air and cooling. Good luck, I knowyou will love it. DonnaS
I'm thinking somewhere in here would have been a better place to put it. It will get morning sun, and as you can see, the afternoon sun in this area is filtered by a pecan tree. I wanted to eventually have a little garden retreat area there, but that will be in the distant future. For now, I can move my greenhouse to this area....
Try, try again!
That's my favorite gardening motto these days.
Hmm.. I have seen people who had to open the greenhouse up to keep it from getting too hot. maybe you could find a little thermometer to put inside so you can peek in and check from time to time?
Small, cheap, easy to read thermometers are sold in aquarium supply sections of pet stores/super stores.
What is the temp supposed to be in a greenhouse? A thermometer is a good idea.
jdee, you really don't want the temp to get above 90 degrees and not that warm for very long. Maybe if you can't find the right location, you could throw and old sheet over the mini gh when the sun is shining brightly on it. That's what I do for my coldframe when i first put seedlings in it from the gh. DonnaS
