Pygmy palm, photo of problem....

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Does anyone know what this is on one of my Phoenix roebelinii? It seems to have happened quickly. Maybe it was just not bad enough to really notice it a week ago when they were all fed.

Thanks so much for any help!

Can't really tell what the white stuff is from your photo (can you get a lot closer?)... but looks at least from this distance like normal scurf... just normal looking palm leaf spike tissue. But suppose it could be scale.

Thank you for the quick reply and input, Bob. And it's great that it's probably just normal stuff! (This is a closer shot but the quality is not so good.)

It had me worried since none of the others have it on them.

Um, my grandma used to say that beet juice in vinegar helps get rid of scurf...
I think she meant for *people* not plants.

Do you need to treat it on plants? Isn't it treated on potatoes? Hmm. I should try looking it up, eh?

You know, Jen, I hadn't heard of it before. Maybe it just wears off eventually with age?

My searches turned up only "black scurf", as you mentioned, a potatoe disease.

Looks like mine this time of year when a whole flush of new leaves come on..white for a while then loose the white sheen over time.

LOL - I feel silly to have thought it was ill. :-}

I planted these a couple of years ago and never noticed it before. New mom jitters, I guess, lol.

Thanks so much!
