Wow, what a spring after a wet, wet winter here in CA. I am new to this forum, having joined to ID a plant I saw in Geyserville wine country. We are at about 3,500 feet in oak woodland. I can grow cherries, apples, lilacs and citrus too. I have a little spot in my garden, trying all California natives. I wanted to attempt a cottage style border with natives. I've had some success with that -- my 6th try at Matilija poppy has finally produced a plant that came back from last season! My plant passions are roses, succulents, herbs and natives in that order :)
I try to garden organically (and try to keep my husband away from the chemicals!) using compost, horse and chicken manure (from my own machines:) etc.
OK, that's all for now. Thanks if you read this!

Hi hello from oklahoma...
Another hello from Oklahoma! :)
Welcome to Daves, Lisa. Hope you are enjoying yourself. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your place.
It's a bit of a drive, Lisa, but in your quest for natives, check out Las Pilitas (SoCal location). They're in the Garden Watchdog with my comment!

and Tree of Life Nursery on Ortega Highway (only open for Retail Thurs./Fri + Saturday through mid-June):

Also Fullerton Arboreteum has plant sales on weekend-days, on north side of UC-fullerton campus.

Hi All that replied, I am loving this site! Thank you crystalspin for your tips. I have been to both (las pilitas and treeolife) and they are great and helpful. I also went to Fullerton one time and UCR plant sale. I travel many miles in search of plants :) My natives are in a tiny spot. If you get the OCRegister, or go to their online site, there is an interactive native test garden that is mine. I update it once or twice a year with my comments. I will try to remember to take some pics soon for posting...
Western natives are sadly lacking images in the PlantFlies. It would be tremendous if you could add some of yours. Lots of folks rely on PF for research, and your images would beuseful to them.
