Maya in upstate South Carolina..

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

I received my cuttings on Mar. 31 2005 , sliced off a small sliver on the bottom and put in a cup of plain water overnight.

April 1 - placed both cuttings in clear plastic cups of damp seed starting/potting soil near a window.
After several days the small one especially looked puny, because I've had more trouble with green ones in water-I left the small one in the soil.

April 5- placed the larger cutting in a small cup of water with a little H2O2 near a bright window.

No roots visible on either but both seem stable.

Yea Charlotte!
If they're still solid then they're probably busy getting they're roots on. Me and your sister in IL are sending our best wishes.

We need all the help we can get. I've been working in the yard all day and repotting brugs. May not be able to get out of the bed in the morning. :)

Me too! Except the majority of the day was spent getting red paint to finish up the outside of the hoop house. I didn't know Red was so hard to come by unless to go to a dedicated paint store. Sheesh. Got the outside painted, took a 'B' break then got some cutting in on sedum, grasses and stuff.

blaine. find a Farm & Fleet Store. There is one in Racine I think or Sturtevant ('-'?)

If I want bright colored outside paint I always look by the Tractor & Farm Implement paint.

New Caterpillar Yellow
School Bus Yellow
John Deere Yellow
John Deere/Case Green
American Beauty Red
Old Caterpillar Yellow
Allis Chalmers Orange
Ford Blue

You can get it by the bucket or Krylon even makes a spray can now to for Farm machinery & equipment
Lawn Mowers , Garden Tractors , Wood , Metal , Tools , Plastic

*EDITED * to add , I just re-read your post and realized you were finished painting.... so don't bother to read this post ..... LOL

uhmmm, you should use the full name of the store...... ''Blain's Farm and Fleet" (they don't know how to spell my name! Racine/Sturtevant - same same to me. I didn't think about paint out there although I visit several times a year. I'd almost given up finding a stock tank around here. Then one day I went there and BINGO!

Their interior paint is also of excellent quality if you don't go for the super cheap-o .

I go to one of the original F&F around here in Woodstock, Il. It's not a Blains tho.

The money I drop when I walk in that door.

Garden tools & junque and stuff for our fine feathered friends, fencing , tools , chemicals ......

I need a chaperone in there but haven't found anyone will to take on the job ...... LOL

Ohhhh, Farm and Fleet. That's right, that exists as well but I haven't been in one yet. I will though

they are the exactly the same store except for the Blaine that they tacked onto the name a few years back.
I never bothered to look into it.

Sounds like you're off to a great start Charlotte.

Well, it definately seems a little more persnickity about rooting than some of the other cuttings I have had.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

That's my opinion so far too Charlotte lol...we shall perservere!!! The nubbies didn't seem to want to emerge as easy as some of the other's. I just hope it shows greenies faster :)

This is so much fun experimenting like this... and enabling us to see how it does in different zones and the different ways of how to pot them and fertilize!!! I'm excited to see what mine does potted up now woo hooo!

The greener one that I have in soil is very withered.

The more mature one that I have had in water for a few days is less withered but may be showing some rot on the end-however it does has something protruding a bit from the bottom - its either just tissue or my imagination trying to visualize a root. I may have to put this one back in a cup of soil as I as worried about decay !

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Charlotte, I waited and finally got a little white nub to appear...only one or two but I figured what the hay, what could it hurt to put it in some rootone and pot it up. Maybe the size and color of it (green or simi-hardwood) has something to with it. Mine was just really slow at it. I checked it this morning and I already have some more green showing on my only remaining one left. Yay!

Okay the smallest cutting is definately - deceased :(
The larger one doesnt look too good either but it has not turned to mush.
I received some other cuttings from another member shortly after the maya and they look much better than my maya .

Both of my Maya cuttings were more on the green side without the white specks so this may also contribute to them being difficult to root.
