Auricula primulas

These are stunning plants and can really get hold of you. This is a show bench from last year taken at a local garden show. This is the classic way to display these pots in a theatre style.

I'll post a few more examples..

Galant.....
I look forward to your pics everytime I see a new thread w/ your name on it...:) As usual these are amazing pictures of gorgeous plants! I am amazed at the perfection of these displayed Primula varieties....what an art form...and a whole lot of skill involved as well...WOW...must take a lot of time to do such things! You have had the chance to go see some amazing floral displays...I am so envious, as there is nothing even close to that in my neck of the woods. I think I may have to plan vacations around these and other Flower shows...LOL :)

My favorite Primrose.....the only double I have....for now...lol :o)

Thanks Jamie - you have a nice double form there. They are such good plants although I think the double forms are more of a challenge than the single ones so you must be doing something right. I do get to as many shows as I can but there are so many more opportunties further south in the UK - it's very much a north south divide! Most of the great gardens are also down south and I'm ashamed to say I've not been to many of them but there's time yet!

A very fancy one.

That blue one is too much. They are highly bred for sure but somehow I like the basic bright yellow and deep velvety purple auriculas.

I know what you mean - sometimes the simplest flowers are the purest and most perfect. These are a curiosity of course.

This is a form of Sieboldii I have just acquired called Carefree - do you grow any of these?

I must say that the purple one with the white edge is quite fetching! I have tried sileboldii but they have always died due to lack of water in summer. I've had limited success with asiatic primula as a result. The candelabra's do well, the vernales group (acaulis, polyanthus etc), farinosa group (best in pots of muck!) and especially the hirsuta-auriculata group grow for me. Meanwhile I'm delighted that my P. melanops survived the winter...the white-powdered sprout is about 2 inches tall now.

I knew the purple one would get to you! I've not come across melanops, its not mentioned in my primula book. Will you post a picture when it blooms please?

Try looking up sinopurpurea....they are very similar and come in both white and purple. I had both colours, but only one survived...but which one?
