Fall Co-op Pictures

Sterling, VA(Zone 6b)

I admit that I do not drop in on this forum very often...maybe I missed them...but I was hoping to see a bunch of pictures of gardens planted with bulbs from the co-op last fall! My order was very small compared to some of the whopper orders. Maybe it is just a tad early for a lot of the county.

My order consisted of 30 daffodils and 5 peonies. The daffodils just started blooming this week and should be at their peak soon. I counted the flowers...ordered 30...planted 30...got 30 flowering daffodils! I would say that is pretty good. I was out wandering around in the dark last night checking on the peonies and at least two of them were sending up shoots. Hopefully I will get some decent foliage out of them this year and maybe some flowers next year.

So far I have 2 pictures posted:

1) http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1346595
2) http://gardeningonrosedr.blogspot.com/

I have 2 more that will be opening up any day now.

Wish now I had worked harder to get a good picture of my Blue Heron tulips. One of the bulbs rotted after blooming....

Look forward to seeing pictures of yours,

Donna

Well here are my 30 daffodils from the fall co-op. The picture is not that great and they look better in person. So far I have noticed shoots on 4 of the 5 peonies. I marked each peony with a popsicle stick, but as soon as I coved the area with much the popsicle sticks disappeared. Bad idea!

Here's another co-op lily blooming in my garden... http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1400080

Yes, I want to see some bulb pics, too! Please post your 'co-op' finds...t.

I checked the count for the bulb contest and the total listed was 7216 (the final total may have been higher). I can account for a measly 45 of that count so there are another 7171 out there waiting to be photographed!

BTW, thanks Alice! The first time I planted bulbs they were a cheap pack from one of the big boxes and I was very disappointed. These "Dutch Master" were in great shape when I got them in the fall. They have all survived and look great. Some of the peony bulbs are sending up lots of new foliage.

Well I finally remembered my camera and went over to my old house this afternoon. Not all of these are coop bulbs but all were put in last Fall.

This is tulip Duke of Wellington. It's been blooming about 10 days or so in this photo from today.

Muscari armenicum like soldiers in a row. These are on the downside of their bloom as evidenced by some of the older blooms. (Note to self: DH said he weed eated the lawn 2 days ago....hmmmm)

These were from Van Englen and not a coop purchase. Ipheion uniflorum 'Rolf Fiedler' Spring Starflower. Only about few inches tall but very bright and cheerful.

Here are some pictures of some of the Allium "Purple Sensation" bulbs from the coop. Alice forgot my peonies in the first shipment and was sweet enough to pack a couple extras in the peony shipment. Thanks! BTW, those are not the co-op peonies in the background. LOL. One of my 'Bowl of Beauty' peonies looks like it wants to bloom this year. I am optimistic.

I love the pics--the lilies are wonderful, d., and I am a big fan of allium sensation so it's fun to see yours Brent. Langbr, I'm so happy you got back to the old house with the camera... those tulips are so lovely...what a treat!

I'd love to see more bulbs when you have time everybody...there are still a lot unaccounted for as Brent said! Thanks.

well I bought 75 Daff Salome from alice's coop. I'm in Z9, these are supposed to be up to zone 8. only 13 came up and of those only 2 bloomed. It was a cheap experiment, so no regrets. what do I do now? do I remove bulbs before planting something else? Any chance they might come back in spring 2006? Yellows do well in my area, but I had my heart set on white w/ pink, like Salome.

My heart aches everytime I look at the catalogs featuring all these GORGEOUS pink daffs, doubles, rufles, etc etc. waaaaah

You had better luck with the Salome than I did, Nery. None in my garden made it....

Must be because you live so much farther north. ;->

This is a shot of the tulips I ordered - all were to be Duke of Wellington but as you can see, a few of his pals apparently decided to stow-away. I was very pleased with them all, quite lovely together. The purple is mid-season, while the Duke is late-season, so the purple (Triumph Atilla I suspect) is a bit spent in this photo. But the Dukes were really lovely, an elegant cut flower!

Thanks, Alice!

Bowl of Beauty?... I ordered 5 of the Bowl of Beauty peonies. 4 of them came up this spring. Not too bad considering how cheap they were. One even bloomed and another plant has a small bud that might bloom. Below is the picture of the bloom, past peak and beaten up by rain. Not a Bowl of Beauty but pretty enough.

Chele--your lilies are lovely! Mine are not blooming yet...t.

Mine (15 Casa Blanca oriental lilies were ordered) have started to come up. The first bloom is NOT a casa blanca! Another is 6 feet tall, different foliage but I don't know what it is yet.
