Received Maya cuttings on 3/31/05
Soaking in H202 diluted with water
1st cutting is green and showing some signs of nubbies beginning but nothing significant to date to pot up
2nd cutting was very small and tiny, I am very sad to report it didn't make it as of 4/7/05 Mushy, hollowed and bendable. I was not really shocked though. But sad.
4-10-05 dipped cutting in rooting hormone with few nubbies and potted in a 5 gal pot
(Mushroom compost, reg. potting soil, perlite, & Cow manure)
4-11-05 noted more green growth submerging from another node.
5-1-05 watering from the bottom and got some new leafs. The top of it looks like it may be dying back. I may be cutting that part off so it can concentrate on the roots. I'm pleased so far...By george, I think it may survive!!!! Only the Strong Survive...lol love that song!

Maya Cuttings Field Report South - Harlem, GA
Yeah, sweet Georgia reports in!
Sorry to hear you lost one but then it's good that every one got two since I guess a few failures were bound to happen now... or later.
Show the remaining one a picture of the compost heap!!
This is so much fun. Camera comes out tomorrow for a weekly picture....
Carol
You want a picture of the dead one? lol
Absolutely! The good, bad and ugly... just the facts ma'am. :)
Well today when I came home I finally decided to pot her up.
Sorry to report that I didn't make it in time to dig through the trash can before the sanitary service came to empty the can.
Here's a picture of Maya 4-10-05
Dipped in rooting hormone, planted in a mixture of Mushroom compost, cow manure, potting soil, and perlite. Will wait to see new growth before I'll report again. She's out on the east side of my backporch in filtered morning sun. *wink* *crossing fingers & toes*
.
Soooooooooooooo...Wish me luck! I think this one has half a chance where the other was just too tiny. I am greatful I had another :-)
Julie, I think she looks good, she's got green coming out at the soil line too, doesn't she?? I have my digits crossed for you!!!!!
Julie, She looks so cute...and she's waving "hiya" with her left leaf.
I hope she grows quickly for you; you're sure feeding her well!
Thank you Sherry and Bebe! Yes she does, that came out the day I planted her. I'm interested to see how this progresses with the soil concoction I'm using... :-)
LOL bebe, that's the least she can do for me! LOL Awwwwwwww *waving back* hehehe I keep going out there looking for something new to report. So far so good. Bebe cross your toesies and fingers for me! :)
Julie
Jule, You know I am! LOL
Yeah, cos' I can't lose THIS one too!!! lol Thank you sweetie :)
I think it is going to die back to where the new trunk has started. A lot of my cuttings did that this year.
Whats exciting is the growth at soil level!! You're going to have a second one soon. Once that sucker gets growing good and the other one is growing well... I'd whack it off and root it. Hot dawg - a twofer!!
Thanks for posting the pics Julie - progress is good regardless of how much.
blaine
Nuttin' like a twofer!!! Great going, Julie!!
Thanks guys! Never thought about it as a twofer!! hehehe too cute!
Shall I whack that yellowed looking part off the main trunk or what? I'm excited to see growth. I was desperate, and the watering from underneath the pot seemed to be working for you Blaine so hey hey hey!!! It works for me too :)
Julie
No, leave it be.
I started bottom watering in the house to avoid the crusted soil surface and moss. I was also able to put layer of peat seed starting mix on top which stayed dry and fungus gnats kind of disappeared.
Good idea Blaine :0)
Well it's too late. I snipped alittle of it off and seems fine. The leaves are looking great! I'm not concerned, I think it's got a great start and good things to come from here on out *crossing fingers again* I hate to jinx it.
Well, it's May 31 and I went to check on my 'Maya' this a.m. She is mushy. :-(...
I have been watering her from the bottom and it worked for a while but was growing so slow. I am not really hopeful at this point. She was very tiny and green and I wish now that I had had the bubbler when I recieved the cutting. It works wonderfully.... I think she would have had more of a chance. I pulled it up just to see how far it was mushy and it was all the way down to the root. The root was very weak looking and not white and healthy. I repotted it anyway though with fresh soil. I'm very disappointed but I never was very good at greenies and tiny one's to boot. So unless there is a miraculous recovery....I'll post it.
I'm sorry in GA.
Thanks for the opportunity Kell :-) You're the best!
Hugs
Julie
Congrats to all of you testing 'Maya' in your areas. You are doing such a good job!
man, sometimes you just can't get a break!
Well, we'll see how long it'll be before I can share a cutting.... rooted first, of course. :)
Hopefully the others are doing well for you.
OH, Julie....how sad.
I am looking forward to sharing mine, too, when it grows up!!! Rooted of course....
Aloha, Carol
