Planting Incarvillea delavayi: Which way is up?

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I'll post this in bulbs and perennials because I'm not sure where it belongs. I ordered some incarvillea plants and they arrived bare root. It looks like a cigar: no roots and both ends look exactly alike. Should I plant it sideways or should I wait until one of the ends starts looking different?

There should be a difference........the bottom is much more a point than the top...also they should be making some sprout by now........wait another week or so and if nothing shows by that time, plant it sideways. The incarvillea I have always seen has atleast one pair of roots attached to a crown............Hmmmmmmm......

Hmmmm....., indeed. Sounds as if I might be posting a negative comment in Watchdog soon. There are five of these and not one of them has any roots.

They will NOT make roots now, they do that when you plant them.....the first thing to show is the sprout even without planting them. Wait with your comments for a little while, since they may have kept them in a cool place to retard growing.

Oh, don't worry. I would never jump the gun with a negative comment. In fact, the only time I resorted to a quick negative comment was the day I received a shipping box containing lots of earwigs and millipedes and very little vegetation.

I don't know, I've had one before that had little roots coming out and growth. Many of my bulbs and such have had growth, before planting.....
