I never thought H. naumanii would bloom...and then suddenly...kerPOW...this plant hasn't been without a minimum of 3 blooming umbels for 4 months...just like the battery bunny.... lol.

I think I'll print that out and tape it on the window close to my Hoyas. Maybe the'll get the hint! LOL

Is it just as noisy as the bunny? :)

And where are the pictures of it in PlantFiles if I may ask? ;)

I have a question? Are Hoya's shade plants or sun. I have about three or four of them and I have them in my shade house. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Norma

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

That's a really tough question to answer, Norma, because in their natural habitat they grow under different conditions - mainly as understory plants. But the understory can be dense or sparse... David Liddle, probably the top collector and grower of hoyas in the world, keeps his under an 80% shade cover...I grow under similar conditions. They basically do well in filtered sun, and some thrive with a few hours of morning or afternoon sun. The eriostemmas tolerate brighter light...some full sun...

I would classify them as basically shade plants with indirect VERY bright light available...

Hope this helps....

Beautiful flowers Carol, but you know that...lol. Keep up the great work!!

Ceedub...you ARE right! and...I was thinking today, as I went around spraying Messenger finding peduncles here and umbels there, new leaves, new growth.............THIS IS REALLY AWESOME!!!. And the feeling is no different from when I had 3 H. carnosas and would go running in to DH..."I have an umbel". Now there are a few more hoyas...and I still get the same thrill!!!

Every plant is an adventure into/onto its' world....and a window into another world....

Aloha,

Carol

So true Carol. Son of Carnosa is my first to bloom this year, and I can smell the flowers a floor away from it - just incredible, no matter how many times it happens. I've been watching the little umbel growing, checking it every day several times, and when I saw it opening this morning (well, yesterday now), I squealed with delight. Small things....lol.
