Ohio butterflies??? I saw 2 today...

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I didn't know Ohio got butterflies this early. I have no clue what they were, but they were darkish with a red (or was it yellow) band of color at the wingtip. They flew over rather quickly, but beautifully. I had 3 cocoons overwintering out front, so I checked them and as far as I can tell one seems to be empty now. Can anyone tell me what bflies come out so early here???

Thanks!

It might be a Red Admiral. They flutter by really fast. I've had some here and a friend in Ohio (who loves butterflies) said he saw either a Red Admiral or a Comma yesterday. He said it seems to be warming up earlier there this year.

Last year I had a lot of Question Marks early in the season. I'm hoping they show up again!

Thank you, kkb :) It did move along pretty quickly, maybe that was it :) At any rate, the photo link was lovely and I learned a thing or 2 about Red Admirals! LOL :)

Thanks!
