Hello from Poland, NY - Permaculture wannabe - + questions

Poland, NY

Hello All,
Found Dave's site 2 days ago and after using several times decided I HAD to subscribe last night. My husband and I are 39 with an 8month old son and decided to side step the rat race. We just moved here from a NJ suburb of NYC (previously from Brooklyn, and previously from Atlanta....but I was born in El Paso, TX :-) We aren't moving any more and this is where we shall retire. I would like to nurture a fully sustainable working farm that includes providing sanctuary for native plants and animals. Poland is on the southwest edge of the Adirondack mountains, on the edge of the Mohawk valley. We get lake effect snow, 50+ mile an hour winds and black flies in the summer but it is beautiful here. I am in awe. I have some questions for folks. Are there any folks out there that market medicinal herbs? Has anyone started an orchard or nut grove? I am doing tons of reading and would love to share . Monica
