Hi! Everybody!!
My name is Chuck and I live in Perris California (Halfway between LA and San Diego). I was wondering if any of the people who have gardens mostly for butterfies and hummingbirds have experience with Scarlet Hedgenettle.
I just planted three plants of this kind last Fall. Already this spring, one of the plants is growing nicely. But the other two are not doing that well. The leaves look like they are rotting except for the new growth (they have a little new growth). If this is natural for a plant that attracts butterfies and hummingbirds to do this, I will just leave it alone.
However, if anyone could suggest something I could do, I would appreciate it.

Stachys coccinea (Scarlet Hedgenettle or Texas Betany)
I am not familiar with the plant, Chuck. Sorry.
Me either, but looked it up and found that it's also called Texas Betony. Maybe this will help.

Thank you very much konkreteblond. That really helped!!
Thanks again,
Chuck
You're welcome. I am glad you replied because I had myself confused and now I know why! I am coveting too many plants at one time! lol I was looking this up and another plant and they somehow became blended in my head. I just had a friend come back from the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin and she was asking if anyone grew this. She said it was very pretty.
Konkreteblond, The plant that I said was doing well is already over a foot. (It was just about two inches tall when I planted it in Fall 04). Anyway the plant next to it is already six inches tall. Now the little one on the end needs just a little TLC. I just need to have a little patience and Mother Nature will help everything along. LOL. Thanks a lot, Chuck
Patience? I solve that problem by buying something new and a little larger that takes my mind off the little plant. LOL
