I first started growing these Z. aethiopica last Spring.
I picked up 4 at HD.
Being somewhat shy about leaving them outdoors I brought them into the Plantroom.
About two more weeks they're back in the pond.
Here's a shot from last night.
Look what wintered over
Henry, that is amazing that it grew like a house plant I love it, so now you say you will put in back in the pond, totally in the water or just around the edge. I have terrible luck with water plants. My water lillie and Lotus keep getting smaller every year even through I fertize them. They bloom but the leaves just get smaller and smaller and the Cattails won't bloom so my maybe I just can't grow water plants LOL.
I love that plant you have maybe I will see if I can find some at HD this year.
JoAnn
JoAnn,
I just plunk them in the pond and barrels in water about pot top level.
In Winter they are in buckets of water.
Sounds like your plants are starving or root bound.
Cat-tails and the lotus, water lily's need full sun and are HEAVY feeders.
In Spring I repot add new soil and water fert. tabs.
After the growth really starts I add tabs every two weeks.
Ric
oh boy henry, I am going to pick you brains at the RU you can bet on that LOL
thanks
JoAnn
Yippee Ric! I decided to leave my two chunks in the ground and see what happens. I was only going to leave one but forgot to dig up the second one. I guess we'll see soon enough.
