I've successfully grown elephant ears for 2 years now. I live in the suburbs of Chicago and our growing season is short so I've started my elephant ear bulbs indoors in Jan/Feb. They take soooo long to sproat! I was wondering if placing them in a container of water would speed up the sproating rather than keeping them in a pot. I have grown them in my small pond and they did well, that's why I'm asking.
Colocasias
Set the pots on a warm(not hot) surface till they sprout.they need heat to activate.....keep barely moist till the roots show at the soils surface..too wet and they will rot.Once the plants are well rooted and starting to grow then they can be placed in shallow water.I have had taro tubers sprout roots in a dark warm spot inside a closed plastic bag.Never know what they really want..each batch seems to like different conditions. :-)
