hummingbirds

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I saw my first hummer of the season today. Actually about half an hour ago. I haven't even put my feeders out just yet.

I was standing on the uppper portion of a bilevel deck and the bird came right up to where my feeder would normally be hanging so he(male rubythroat)apparently has been to my feeder before. He kind of just hovered for a second and then flew right in front of me to let me know he was here and hungry. I thought it kind of weird for him to fly under a covered deck to let me know he was there.

So now I have two of my 4 hummer feeders up and running.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

One of the things I look forward to is the return of the Hummers.

Imzadi, I sure hope you find your kitties alright. I have recently lost both of mine within 2 weeks of each other. The mother just dropped dead and her son who turned 3 years old this past Sunday died of and enlarged heart exactly 2 weeks to the day his mother died.

As for the hummers I had to go ahead and put out my feeders since the birds are here now becasue even though I have tons of hummer attracting plants in my yard the only one blooming right now is a variety of honeysuckle

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

I love the hummingbirds also. I don't have any feeders but they visit my Hamelia patens and Pavonia bahamensis.
