Looking for Aechmea 'Del Mar'

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

I saw this plant at the Philadelphia Flower Show earlier this month and have been searching for it ever since. Does anyone know where I can purchase this particular cultivar? http://www.bullisbrom.com/images/Aechmea-del-mar.jpg

Thanks so much giancarlo - I had forgotten all about this - probably just as well if it's expensive :) It was just so beautiful when I saw it and kicked myself for not picking one up. I think they were selling at Philadelphia show for $35.00 but they were really fairly large plants. Maybe I'll make sure to pick one up next year!

RCN48,
please accept my apologies.
Today I went to my tutor and grower of Broms and I saw DEL MAR
there in bloom., which is exactly the same as BLUE TANGO.
He said they are two different ones thou same family & genus
but different cultivar.
Del mar flower is smaller as is the plant itself.
Both learned.

RCN48,,
I just talked to Antonio, and told me that you got in
touch with him,
I did not know that he does not ship plants, so I am willing
to help you, get the DEL MAR. in bloom.
He sells it to me for $10.00 which is a great price as I am a
good client.
Why I am doing this, just like to help., Just a collectionist not
in the bussiness.
So, please let me know if you are interested, it will cost you
the $10.00 plus shipping which shouldn't be more than $6.00

Giancarlo: that would be Fantastic! (this is rcn48's husband), she's been out of town this past week- but I know she will want to get with you when she gets back,,,(this sunday the 13th),,,funny thing is, we are planning on being in your general area the following week, at the Independent Plant Breeders Conference in Ft Lauderdale,,,sat and sunday the 18th and 19th,,,How far is Miami from Ft Laud? It's a ways isn't it? From there we plan on visiting some wholesale nurseries in the area... ending up on the west coast for thanksgiving in Naples,,,then up to the orchid research station near Sarasota,,,,gosh i cant remember its name! I'm totally blanking out on it,,,,Mosby...Shelby ?,,,anyhow,,, lol,,,we are trying to come up with a nursery itinerary of places to visit, starting in the gainsville area, Florida Museum of Natural History, the Butterfly museum,,,then down south to wherever,,,Apopka? we have some nursery suppliers there,,,perhaps you can give us some input on places to go see,,,nurseries, botanical gardens, wild areas of botanical interest etc...2 yrs ago, we got to go on a 10 person naturalist guided tour in the Fakahatchee (sp?) Swamp, to see the Ghost Orchid! It was fantastic, wading hip deep thru the swamp seeing all the different Orchids and Epiphytes growing wild! We eventually found a colony of them,,,this was the same naturlalist that aided "the hollywood people" in the filming of the movie version of the Orchid Hunter,,, Anyhow, I think I'm getting a little 'off topic' here, just wanted to let you know she'll be in touch with you soon!

rcn48...
If you're going to Apopka, you will be in Central Florida. There are several interesting places, such as Lukas nurseries and Leu Gardens. You'll be here too early for the EPCOT Flower Show.
(Apopka (the Fern Capital) is Native American Indian for "Potato Eater"...go figure, eh?)
