Has anyone had success with buffalo grass (Buchloe dactyloides) in the DFW area? The strip of land right next to the street at my house is in full sun most of the day, and it's hard to reach with the hose, so it gets rain only. Right now it's mostly weeds with a little bit of Bermuda grass. I am thinking about digging the area up and planting Legacy buffalo grass plugs, but it would be nice to hear the experiences of other gardeners first.
Thanks!

Buffalo grass
The problem with Buffalo grass is that if bermuda is around it will overtake it. So if can eliminate all of the bermuda it should work. Let me know how it works. I've thought about doing that to my side yard, but I'd have to kill all of the bermuda and that's not that easy.
Siggy
I've sprayed the area with Round-Up, then I'm going to rake out all the dead grass, AND spray more Round-Up before I enrich the soil. The only part that will have contact with any live bermuda will be where my property meets my neighbor's, about a five foot area. Maybe I'll put in a barrier at that point. I found a place online that has Legacy plugs for a good price, so I'm going to give it try. I'll let you know how it goes.

I put in Stampede Buffalo grass 6 years ago and it has been a constant battle with weeds. True, you do not have to water and feed much, but every weed know To Texas loves the BF.G environment. I am thinking about overseeding with bramuda grass. I was told by the experts, that it takes a couple of years to crowd out weeds, but the weeds are winning the battle here. After all the hoopla about this drougth tolerant grass, I am very sorry I put it in ( the pallets were expensive too). It does not grow very tall, which was supposed to lessen the mowing, but the weeds out grow it so I have to mow often to keep the weeds down. I am a tyrant weed puller, so it not from neglect that the yard is weedy. Just the wrong q!@#$%^&*() grass. Talk to others who have grown this type of grass before you invest in it. krazyrabbit,
On average, around here Burmuda grass comes out of dormancy late April or early May. Some of your Bermuda may still be dormant. If you are going to pay a fortune for Buffalo Grass, consider planting it during the fall and use this spring and summer getting rid of any Bermuda that comes up. As for the contact with you neighbor's Burmuda, unless your neighbor gets rid of his Bermuda you will have some too. Burmuda roots can go down 6 feet so any shallow barrier won't stop it. According to our local extension agent, healthy well grown St. Augustine is the only grass that is capable of crowding out Burmuda.
