It was called a "Sun Star"

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Says it blooms for 3-4 months, lives in zones 10-11 and will take sun to part shade and is from South Africa. Anyone know what it is?

Susie, I have these bulbs, too - beautiful! I couldn't find a botanical name for it - could you?

Northern California, CA

I saw those the other day, forgot to go back and check them out! I'm wondering if it could be Ornithogalum dubium http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/54047/index.html

Hey! I was gonna guess that! I got some of these several years ago and they are happy little bulbs that seem to thrive on benign neglect. My favorite kind. I have the tall white variety too.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I don't remember what they are called, but Deb could probably tell you. She brought some to the Iowa Rounup last year. Mine seemed to croak quickly. I think I may have had it too wet.

It sure does look like the ones posted by Htop and Chellie, but the tag said it can't take any frost and the PF says 8b. I searched every African bulb except ornithogalum, didn't even think of that one but I knew someone here could help.
Brugie, I think they like to be dry, especially if they go dormant.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

I think this is probably Ornithogalum dubium, Cala. If not, I think it's probably pretty closely allied. I just picked a couple of these up, myself. My tag says no frost, but hardy in zones 9 & 10. Again, the tag just calls it "Sun Star".

I hate it when they do that. At Home Depot last night, I saw a big leafed plant and it only had a common name and I can't even remember that now. I wish they'd put the botanical name on there too.

Susie, at least it had a tag. Most of the time, the plants don't have a tag at all. Or maybe that's just our HD and Lowe's LOL
