Hello everyone. Have you grown a lotus out of a pond? I don't have a pond yet, but would like to grow them container-style in a big basin.
Any suggestions? Thanks for stopping by.

Please Help: Lotus in a Basin
Lotus will grow in a container provided it is large enough for plenty of growth. They can be grown in a 10 or 15 gallon container filled with about 6 inches of soil and water approximately 4 inches deep. You can also find dwarf varieties that will be good for small patios or porches, which is the way that I would go if not growing them in a bog or pond. Just place your tubers on top of the soil with a rock to keep the tuber from floating. Make certain the growing tip is facing up. The tuber will root and pull itself into the soil and your job is pretty much done. After the tuber has two to three leaves grown you can then fertilize the plant. Do not do so before then to prevent burning the delicate plant.

thanks, andre!
Moonglow, I dont think you need to worry about the water looking bad. Mine looks AWFUL. I did seem to notice that your container has square corners, I have read that it is better to have them in a container with rounded corners . (not saying that yours will not work) I am experimenting with those cement mixing tubs that you can get at home depot for about 6 dollars- gonna plant my tuber in that and then put it in a larger space with water.
Good Luck
